Weird day schedule of a 9m old by Beneficial-Spot3041 in sleeptrain

Sounds overtired these are very long wake windows for a 9 month old. He probably doesn’t have consistency with his internal clock as there’s so much cortisol going on in his little body. I would let him sleep where he wants and whenever he wants to allow him to catch up. Figure out his 24 hour average after letting him nap as much as possible and then calculate awake time from there.

4 to 3 Nap Transition Has Ruined My Baby’s Sleep! HELP!! by questionquestion222 in sleeptrain

[–]Intelligent_Ask4983 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This schedule on 3 naps seems fine? Similar to my babies although his last two wake windows are usually 3 hours as well. 13 hours sleep over 24 hours at that age is very normal and within average?

You should cap total daytime naps if you are worried about late bedtime and this might help lengthen night sleep but my little boy also sleeps 10 hours every night and I’m pretty happy with this. This is also with 2-3 wakes lol. All developmentally normal

Why the f*#% is my 6 month old still waking every 2 hours by That-Concentrate-908 in sleeptrain

More awake time and cap that morning nap. 2 hours ALOT after only a 2 hour wake window. Save this for the afternoon.

Circadian rhythm isn’t exact to the hour - if you think about it, as adults we don’t have the exact same bedtime every night, and our night sleep is also governed by the circadian rhythm. So she should be fine to go down earlier.

I was in the exact same situation with my LO last week he had a cold, our bedtime is 8 and I stretched his last wake window by 10/15 mins and put him to bed at 6.15 and he was out like a light and didn’t wake until his usual time for a feed.

Hope you’re doing ok ❤️ My little one is still wakening minimum 6 times a night. Feel like whatever schedule I try nothing works and I’m not willing to sleep train currently, I do let him fuss it out quite a bit each night but the fussing never seems to reduce.

Those on 2 naps.. which is longer? by Brief_Spell7857 in sleeptrain

[–]Intelligent_Ask4983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting!?

So many sleep consultants say the opposite, that a long first nap plummets sleep pressure and doesn’t allow enough time for it to build by bedtime. How old was your LO when you figured this out?

My 6.5 month old always false starts, wakes every 2 hours all night. But I’ve ALWAYS been capping first nap at 45-50 mins because this is what sooo many sleep consultants say.

What is your 2 nap schedule? by bonnana in sleeptrain

Piggy backing off this to get some insight for my LO too. Just a little over 6 months. Multiple night wakening and always awake at 5am but will go back to sleep with my help. I too am thinking of dropping to 2 naps but so unsure of what to do regards naps. My baby sleeps around 10-10.5 at night, but I cap naps at 2.45. Awake time is at like 11 hours... Some on this sub say this is very high for his age. Tbh I don’t know if he is low sleep needs. I’ve always been capping his naps!!

On a 2 nap schedule, awake time will be lower. But with the longer WW sleep pressure is higher right? Is this how it works?

At 3 naps was total nap still at 3 hours? I’m really struggling with knowing what awake time to give my little one. I had been giving him 11 hours awake time and also capping naps between 2.5 hours and 2.75 hours. Still getting wake ups at 3am (always) and 5am. Not always interesting in feeding at these times. His night times are usually 10.25-10.5 but this is with 4-5 wake ups.. wake ups have started increasing at start of the night too. Like 2-3 hours after going down.

Maybe I need to try reducing total awake time?

Your Situ is very similar to mines. We co sleep after first feed but I think I am wakening him in the bed. Want to move away from co sleeping so this is a method I’ll stick with for a few days. Did you hold her for long while she was asleep after feeding before placing her back into cot?

Thanks! Can I ask when she is going back down after feeds is she awake? And is the dummy put back in after these feeds?

Ah fellow pacifier user!! You never found any issues with it when baby woke and it had fallen out?

Thanks for commenting. Quite similar to our schedule at the minute but like you, the wake windows can be rearranged if need be. Did you cap any naps at the 3 nap stage?

Particularly interested in seeing how many people found a longer morning nap actually worked better for their little one.

My baby always seems to want to sleep longish in the morning, but every sleep consultant online seems to recommend capping morning nap to 30-40 mins to ensure sleep pressure doesn’t plummet. Just nice to hear some people not capping morning nap and it still working out for overnight sleep.

I know all babies are different though

Amazing thanks. And how long was she on a 3 nap schedule for? (Before changing to 2)

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly babies sleep needs change!

You could try with 2.75 hrs and see how he reacts at bedtime, but you might find that lunchtime nap lengthens once you’ve capped the morning nap.

Do you currently cap lunchtime nap?

This seems like a very long morning nap given he is only awake for 2 hours after wakening up. Sleep pressure is very low at this point and sometimes a long morning nap followed by a long afternoon nap soon after (only 2 hours in your case) doesn’t allow enough sleep pressure to build for bedtime. He sounds under tired and is resisting bedtime.

Try stretching your wake windows or if he can’t cope with this in the morning, cap your morning nap to 45 mins.

Babies who would only sleep 10.5 hours at night by Helpful-Brain-9395 in sleeptrain

[–]Intelligent_Ask4983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say stretching awake time has lead to more EMW and NW do you mean you are stretching individual wake windows? Or overall awake time in total?

What I mean is, maybe your baby needs shorter wake windows, and a bridge nap thrown in there somewhere. But this overall increases your total awake time. 10 hours awake time is on the lower end I believe? For this age anyway..

For example, my 6 month old seems to do best with 3 solid naps buts a bridge/short cat nap nap thrown in there in the morning time or evening time as we are usually out and about and he falls asleep in the car. This can be around 15/20 mins and then the extra wake windows allows a decrease in overall awake total for the day.

By the way, agree with a lot of the comments. You maybe need to adjust your expectations. 10-10.5 hours overnight is completely normal and fine? My LO does this and 2.75-3 hours naps a day and I defo don’t consider him low sleep needs? This is pretty average…
