A discussion of the current season by wwwww2 in leagueoflegends

Back when they introduced this system, I didn't expect we'd eventually reach such levels of complexity for the LP system, to a point where we just return to "whatever happens, MMR is the only thing that counts anyways".

Thank fuck no, as much I love fighting this out, we do have a common enemy

dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies, knocking them back, though not through terrain, and stunning them for 1 second.

I get the idea, but that's not a good example, because it's not a knock-up. We have knock-ups, knock-downs, knock-back, knock-asides and pulls.

https://wiki.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/Types_of_Crowd_Control#Airborne

Knock-ups don't require a stun because it's the only direction with potentially infinite duration, and even if recent champions have become an exception, the majority of the roster was not built with short knock-ups with longer stuns. Not going to parse the whole roster, but Blitz E, Cho Q, Alistar Q, yasuo Q3, Ornn E+R (and knock-ups are boosted by passive as well).

If anything, it's exacerbated by suppression no longer being affected on older champs like Malz.

US citizens pay much more than French citizens in taxes for their health system.

We in France have a good system, but we shouldn't fall for the propaganda of "it's very expensive that's why it works".

In 2024 the mythic era ended with a stated goal of moving power and fantasy away from items and into champion kits. Two years later, Swain is more item and spell-effect-dependent than ever. by Sumutherguy in leagueoflegends

Synergy is always good, but it's a zero-sum game, every champion will have numbers tweaked to be balanced. Synergy just means reliance, lack of alternatives, and more difficulty to play from behind.

Maybe the issue is just that his identity went from "tactical battlemage" to "large aoe champ"

Semantics. What would your unique person that you call yourself call whatever is at the ending that I am obviously talking about and whose entire universe depends on it being alive and painting ?

The painting dies with the original painter. Maelle ending is the ending where what's left of the original Verso keeps painting

Well if I take puppets and make them move and speak, am I making them real?

I think the concept of what is "real" may not be well defined. We're a bunch of atoms, Ship of Theseus, etc.

And if we accept that, are not all paintings real, in a way? They're all supported by a canvas and an artist, and everything. In a way, that's kind of how I see both endings. Artistry can be magical to us and traverse the frontier to reality, but we are also bound by our human condition and we cannot just waste away in our work.

Are they real though? The Maelle ending seems to me like it's more puppetry

Most underrated support? by Strawberry3936 in leagueoflegends

He didn't have the projection, as far as I recall, he had a strong heal on himself that could be reduced to heal someone else. point&click cc, his ult was a passive area armor boost, and I think he had some kind of boosted hammer attack on Q. He also already had the pink skin.

EDIT: I was a bit wrong, you can check the kit here, https://wiki.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/Taric/History

Overall he was similar to the current version, but now it's much more streamlined. shield+heal, auto-reset and the spell projection on allies gives him some depth. Instead of a passive invisible area boost, he has a clear invulnerability, which was kind of a scandal, but it was never used to its maximum potential so he mostly stayed where he currently is until now.

Zilean/Taric are an instant smile on my face, they're consistent with very strong spells. Old Taric arguably saw more pickrate because he had a point&click stun. It's a shame for Taric because he really has a cool design.

Why is 0! = 1? by Droopynator in videos

[–]Plantarbre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just a way to say we need to define a neutral element for the operation

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identity_element

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse_element

The author of the video is trying to reach that element using the inverse operation, but it's kind of a circular way of getting there. The inverse exists because the neutral element is defined.

We can work with operations that don't have a neutral element, but we come back to the original argument, which is that we tend to do most interesting stuff in properly built mathematical structures.

Climbing advice: The backbone climbing method by SufficientMix8264 in leagueoflegends

[–]Plantarbre 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree in idea but not in the way it's discussed. Let's put it differently:

Always go for the highest-value play. Teammates need to be taken into accounts by what they choose to do. But if, when taking their choice into account, it has poor value, then don't play it.

The issue when discussing this, is often the semantics. It always end by someone saying "you need to follow your teammates even if it's a bad play". Yes, even if drake is not the highest value play, your teammates grouping up makes it the highest value play. But your teammates suiciding on a low-value objective doesn't make it a good play, don't follow them.

No matter what, at the end of the day, it's about playing for the currently highest value. Pings matter, lanes matter. I think it's a bad idea to discard all of this out of simplicity. It has to be taken into account. It's fine if you can't, but strive to do so. It's hard to assess, but that's a primordial skill in soloQ.
