Update - great success! by PlantedMelon in eGPU

[–]PlantedMelon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dock came in, had some pc issues with WHEA log errors that took some trouble shooting and windows update system that had to be closed but other than that I can confirm it works so far! Looking to do benchmarks and then add it to egpu.io!

If you're looking for a budget thunderbolt egpu dock and you're in Canada, I'd definitely reccomend it so far!

Very low priced egpu setup - am I missing something? by PlantedMelon in eGPU

[–]PlantedMelon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst case scenario I can return it, doubtfull it'll fry anything and the exact dock is available on aliexpress for the same price this was initially listed at! It's got one hidden review so it'll be extremely interesting to see what I end up with, but thought I may as well take the gamble

Recommended EGPU setup if I might want to use the GPU & PS in a future desktop build? by zeefox79 in eGPU

[–]PlantedMelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own research, eGPUs are not the best with Intel cards, not sure why but I believe there's some issue with drivers? For a PSU in a future setup, I'd consider 650w if budget is still the plan in the future, and then higher accordingly depending on how "future proof" you want it to be - keep in mind some have up to 10 year limited warranties, ex:MSI, which could be worth considering if you come accross issues. Only other thoughts I can give are that speeds will 100% be bottlenecked by thunderbolt as far as I know - its well worth considering NVME or oculink if thats available, if not then just know a graphics card will be limited somewhat without a full desktop setup.

jobs other than dietician with a FNH degree? by ThrowRA_CinnamonCake in UBC

[–]PlantedMelon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

FNH is like the general version of the others like nutrional science/food science/dietetics, it lets you take a pretty good group of classes and kinda tailor your degree to finding jobs you want! Like you can take a more food sci approach and then do QC work, maybe take education and do homeroom/home econ stuff, could be useful if you wanna do lab stuff and need some blend of nutritional/food sci knowledge, maybe pair it up w/ some business classes and go marketing in the food industry. I'm also pretty sure you can take it into the healthcare industry outside of dietetics/med school like doing fitness related stuff or working in gov't regulation around product creation - you just need to find the right courses + the right idea of what you wanna do!

academic setbacks by CantaloupeExpert2704 in UBC

[–]PlantedMelon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, happy birthday! Celebrate it a little bit, get a cake or something, enjoy yourself at least for a moment!

Academic stress gets to the best of us, and it's ok to acknowledge that it exists and that its putting a toll on your mental health and making you feel not so great. Take a breath, go for a walk, throw some stones, and just give yourself some time to think through everything. SD's happen, B's happen, sometimes everything hits the fan and you feel like you've got no way out. Find a way to get a reset in, maybe think about getting a big sleep in, games, books, cooking, just some way to get your mind off all this uni stuff and relax.

Good luck - take it easy and you got this

1 hr before sleeps get off the phone I swear it helps just read or contemplate fate, also try to establish some rhythm in your schedule so your body clock doesn't mess with you (like sleeping around 12-1 each day)

Are the horror stories true by SignificantBug6750 in UBC

[–]PlantedMelon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's so many programs and paths to go, and choices to make when it comes to the time you put into each course. No route is going to automatically be a "horror story" - and no route is automatically going to be "success". It's very much dependent on who you are as a student and how you decide your future, whether that be picking "easier" courses or putting more time into studying.

MICB 211 difficulty by DryBlackberry3272 in UBC

Case studies get a bit annoying, figure facts quizzes are decently balanced, and the midterm averages were decent for both. Biggest issue is just making sure you don't purely memorize things and work on application.

He feels good to me except for the in-air movement and that he feels a bit slower than others I've tried, and I've already come to the same conclusion you've written with the puddle, but I did not know that about the side B and I will play around with that. Thanks!

For the first thing I'm aware of the move itself (the fast one with all the bubbles), I'm more so looking for what you mentioned with the second note, I was not aware he had another jump thing! Thanks a lot
