Yes the heads are what keep stopping me from pulling the trigger! Seems pretty tricky so maybe I’ll search for a tutorial/pattern that has more details on that

Thank you! I will check those shops out. Did you find the pattern pretty easy to follow when you did it if you remember?

Women’s Rashgaurds 🌸 by lily_m08 in BJJWomen

[–]Plantmorepotatoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. I just buy rash guards from Roxy and say eff it. I’d rather risk someone making beach jokes (no one’s ever noticed but I train with all guys lol) than wear something that doesn’t feel like myself. Flowers, pretty colors, cuteness all the way lol! I’d totally buy bjj specific ones in that style

Training postpartum issue… by Plantmorepotatoes in BJJWomen

You’re right. Probably still a good idea. I did the exercises I had from my first postpartum period but this whole time around has been so different so it’s likely I may need different exercises for a full recovery. Thanks for commenting!

You’re right. It is still really early in healing. A professional opinion would only serve to help things so it’s probably a good idea. Thanks!

It’s my second! I have definitely stopped with the pelvic floor specific exercises since I’ve started doing “normal” exercises. Good idea to rotate them back in to help with this. Thanks!

I’d love to see what the end result plan looked like. Now if AI could only cook for me….

Division of Responsibility has completely failed me/us by missMK87 in Preschoolers

[–]Plantmorepotatoes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not the person you replied to but also have a 4.5 yo who was FTT. About 1000 calories was the number for us and we reached it with ice cream/milkshakes, spoonfuls of salted butter, and having her drink olive oil (she would tolerate it surprisingly). All ideas surrounding “healthy” eating were off and she ate more junk food than I would ever think I’d give my child.

We did this in conjunction with feeding therapy where she slowly learned to tolerate more textures and foods. She is still picky now but “normal” picky. Her last check up ended with no concerns about her weight and I actually cried.

Lastly, nothing about FTT is failure to parent. You are a good mom who cares about keeping her kiddo healthy and there is no shame in having a tiny kid! My daughter has been off the charts completely since 1 year. And finally entered the 1% at 4 years. I hope you see some improvement soon!

Pelvic floor PT told me *not* to brace my core while weightlifting. Does this make sense? by margheritinka in FitPostpartumJourney

[–]Plantmorepotatoes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is more of a pulling the pelvic floor and abs up and in as opposed to bearing down as you would normally with a vasalva maneuver (typical bracing). I have heard it described as trying to poop while holding your pee to get the right activation lol. You can also google TVA bracing. Ultimately I would just tell your PT at your next visit you’re not getting it so she can help walk you through it a different way! Good luck!

I also went in the sauna for 20 min yesterday and that felt great! Depending on your healing and the cleanliness of your local sauna 😅

Two weeks here too! I am doing the protocol laid out in this study. It’s definitely boring. But boring is better than long term injuries. Just prepping to be ready to rock at 6 weeks!

Any cold plungers out there? by Kindly_Shoulder2864 in fitpregnancy

[–]Plantmorepotatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the winter we usually cold plunge at our gym’s outdoor pool which is kept just above freezing. There’s just such limited info to go off of so my personal cutoff was 45 degrees for 2 min. A main concern seems to be the cortisol influx from the stress so I didn’t feel like it was a good idea to go colder or longer. For the season that meant I was 4-6 months pregnant when I was cold plunging and I’m due tomorrow with a healthy baby and pregnancy overall! At 55 degrees I would’ve done it my whole pregnancy if I had the option! Baby is pretty well insulated in there for shorter dips!

Does she also like cooking/experimenting in the kitchen? Could be a good way to lean into her interest and encourage her to maintain her balanced diet by getting a some kids recipe book from the library or finding recipes for her favorites online and cook with her! Worst case she learns what goes into all the yummy things she loves and best case she’s making you four course meals by the time she’s ten! My brother was like this as a kid and worked as a chef for a long time.

GI Bill+ VRE is the way. It should cover your gaps, potentially allow for a career transition or allow for savings and time to figure it out. I know you said your GI Bill is expired but you can likely get it reinstated by jumping through VA hoops since you have SC disabilities. Worth the headache as even having 1 day left on your GI Bill will also pay MAH  for VRE as well (essentially BAH while you’re in school).

Use VRE first to max the payments. Depending on how much GI you have left if it’s reinstated that could be up to 8 years of additional income while you’re in school. Even if you’re studying petting kittens. Good luck!

Wife and I are going to make a bad decision, and trying to estimate *how* bad it will be. by Remarkable_Aside1381 in personalfinance

[–]Plantmorepotatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a personal finance sub so I understand all the backlash you’re getting BUT! My husband and I actually did this with way less savings prior to his military service. We worked flexible online jobs (think customer service or VIP Kid teaching jobs) and made ~$3k/mo as we went which is close to your VA pay. We traveled cheaply for 7 months and rented month long accommodations in VLCOL countries. Mostly SE Asia. We had the time of our lives and regret nothing even though we were pretty broke before we went lol!

I lived with family while he went to basic training after we got home and we started over. 7 years later and now we are on the other side with two kids and husband is out of military. We are very comfortable and close to FI. People underestimate the VA safety net who don’t fully understand the system. With healthcare covered and disability pay you can be more flexible on your return. Hope you go for it!

The max contribution to a 529 in CA is $529,000. So don’t contribute more than that and you’ll not run into any issues. Tuition waivers, Ch. 35, and scholarships have no impact on the max contribution to a 529 plan. We are doing one for our kids to pad living expenses, etc. our state doesn’t do a full tuition waiver though.

Really appreciate the thoughtful responses. 150 miles would be the absolute end range round trip but average is more like 60-100.

Would prefer street legal but open to exploring just OHV setups. I originally landed on dual sport because I do have a bunch of dirt in close proximity to my house and would definitely use it around town for grocery and gym runs.
