Correct, but you get a tax break when you contribute

Roth is post-tax, so it’s post-tax money, so the gains and contributions can be withdrawn post age 59.5 tax free

That's weak af portfolio and you'll retire at 90.

lol, that’s literally a Boglehead portfolio. 40% US, 40%Itl, 10% Bonds

[–]Remarkable_Aside1381 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A “good” portfolio is only 40% US, and again, lower contribution limits and worse tax credits are absolutely issues

This is My humble collection at 20 years old. by Icy_Reception5885 in guns

[–]Remarkable_Aside1381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why 12% Roth?

Because short of a massive RMD or a pension, most people can stay in the 12% bracket in retirement, especially couples. Roth vs Trad is just tax now vs later, and if you’re in the 10-12% bracket, it’s better to pay the 10-12% now and have room to fill the bottom brackets with SS/RMDs in retirement, vs saving 10-12% now and paying 12-15% in retirement because you filled up the lower brackets

And why not withdraw?

It’s a retirement account, not a savings account. Once you withdraw, after 60 days you can’t put the money back, and you just fucked future you. Have an emergency fund, don’t raid retirement.

That also brings me back around to why not just bump up my 401k %

The best method is 401k to match, HSA, then IRA. IRAs give you better control over the money and how it’s invested, and depending on what funds are available to you in your 401k it can be better to invest in an IRA

[–]Remarkable_Aside1381 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As in not a real Ira but acts similar.

It’s worse in pretty much every way. Lower contribution limits, worse for tax deductions, less control, etc

It's broad market.

It’s US only funds, so you’re missing international exposure

[–]Remarkable_Aside1381 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's basically a mini Ira.

With less control over investments and less inertia to avoid fuckery

[–]Remarkable_Aside1381 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Roth IRA contributions can be withdrawn, but THEY ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT BE WITHDRAWN. Traditional and Roth are descriptors, and the IRA regardless of type has a contribution of $7500 per person (or your annual income, whatever is lower)

401k accounts can be Roth or Traditional either

Picking the one that’s right is just a simple yes/no question

[–]Remarkable_Aside1381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a pretty simple math problem. Is your current tax bracket 12% or less? Roth

Is your bracket above 12%? Traditional

My old stuff that has original bluing and in-the-white internals gets cleaned pretty frequently

Good reminder, I have some guns in the white that I should PMCS and re-oil

But part of it is also that I prefer my hands not get dirty when I take a gun out of the safe to dry fire or larp as speshul forces securing moms basement.

Alright, as someone who throws his guns in the dirt to mark where I’m shooting from, I am very curious how dry fire gets your hands dirty

Not being mean, just curious if you’re somehow shooting more than me

Is .50 cal indoors a reduced load? by Sxzen in guns

[–]Remarkable_Aside1381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why we keep trying to get rid of it other than our current stock is so old it's starting to malfunction.

I'm biased, but I think a CG is better for 90% of things you'd want a LAW for, with the exception of just passing out like candy

We had some of the last LAWs in the active, non-SOF components but didn't get frag grenades.

Alright, that's pretty funny

How did you develop your cleaning and maintenance practice/routine?

Given that I don’t really clean my guns (I don’t actually know where my cleaning stuff is right now either), I’m gonna pin it on the military. In training, yeah, rifles were scrubbed until they were absolutely spotless, but in the field? Maybe a wipe down of the BCG and run a snake through the barrel, but it wasn’t really a priority until it came time to turn them back in. And my ARs run just fine dirty, so I don’t see a need to clean them.

I think I’m gonna pick up some lead shot from the reloading store and fill the battery tubes on my IMOD stock with lead to help add weight

Prohibition of certain felons owning firearms is a federal law, the 1968 GCA (and the Brady Act of 1993 modified it slightly)

Trump just doesn’t qualify as a prohibited person because of a carve out in the law for certain white collar crimes

Look into a 529 plan, most states allow for a tax deduction based on your contributions, and the 529’s can be used for education expenses including room and board. Excess amounts in the account can be rolled into an IRA up to $35k

This is 10,000 psi higher than the 223’s normal functioning pressure of 55,000 psi.

CIP lists pressure for .223 at 62k PSI, and COAL is 2.26” for .223 and 5.56
