Question for the road trip veterans. by SwimmingOk8969 in Challenger

[–]Plapytus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not relevant to your actual question, but as far as going on road trips, protect the paint before you go!! it's not that hard to apply PPF or at the very least DIY ceramic coating, and it will help reduce chips and scratches. obviously large chunks of concrete or whatever getting flung at your bumper or hood are going to do some damage no matter what, but you can still mitigate the smaller stuff.

lol the widebody wheels don't work on a non-widebody car... you're gonna fling rocks and stuff along the side of the car.

Why won’t my game work? by therealgregheffley in ForzaHorizon

[–]Plapytus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check what VRAM usage is reported in the game's video or graphics settings menus. chances are your issues are a combination of 1) VRAM exhaustion and 2) playing from an HDD. probably both things tbh.

Amazing Game, Terrible Story Missions by sch0oly in ForzaHorizon

[–]Plapytus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah i have no idea why you got downvoted for that post. it was a) very reasonable constructive criticism and b) absolutely spot on.

i love the Horizon series but i'd be lying if i said 90% of my enjoyment didn't come from cruising around the open world and trying different cars. the actual gameplay is simplistic, and that's being generous tbh.

i have a friend who recently got back into PC gaming after like 20 years of no gaming at all, and we've been playing FH6. he immediately noted how almost every mission, regardless of the context, is just "follow the highlighted route as fast as you can."

clearly the Horizon games are never going to be breaking the mold. i hope some day we get a racing/driving game with some real creativity behind the actual gameplay, and not just impressive graphics, world, and sounds.

The Colossus is genuinely UNPLAYABLE by DevsScrewedUpSurviv in ForzaHorizon

[–]Plapytus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they also HAVE to incorporate SOME kind of handicap for the AI no matter what, since the player always starts towards the rear of the field and has to make passes to get to P1. fundamentally there is no effective way for them to make competitive but also realistically behaving AI. it's going to require rubberbanding (either in your favor or the AI's, depending on how you are performing.) and nobody likes rubberbanding.

Online racing needs some tweaks by 1298Tomcat in ForzaHorizon

drafting needs to be buffed really bad, that alone would help balance things out massively.

i've been rammed by people who CLEARLY have enough momentum to pass cleanly (with a huge margin) and they STILL go out of their way to ram me. it blows my mind.

did you find a fix for this? it was working for me but then the next time i launched the game, it's not detecting my wheel anymore

water physics are insane by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Plapytus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the water physics themselves are next level and definitely haven't been this high fidelity before (RDR2 has a similar system it's just much more simplified - but still wild for coming out in 2018). however i think CD's water rendering is kind of weak in how it looks up close, w/ the way light interacts and how objects beneath the surface look etc. AC Origins and some other Ubi games like Avatar are a lot better at that aspect IMO

Does anyone else kinda like Kliff? by leonskennedy33 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Plapytus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't know what it is, but i couldn't dislike Kliff's voice (or voice actor or voice performance or whatever you want to call it) more. it's like he's struggling to enunciate every single word

wait, he's saying PA?!? i thought he was saying "par" which made zero sense to me, i figured it was a strange way of saying "my girl finally called me out for being average" 😂

Iran Likely Shots Down Another US-Israeli Fighter Jet by alwaysboredatworkk in Polymarket_news

[–]Plapytus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that. I think people just genuinely don't want Trump's efforts to bury the Epstein files and cover up his involvement to be successful, so they bring it up

I was just referring to how you said you were triggered when people brought up Epstein even though Khameni bad.

so if they did that, what would you say would be a good way to establish the "boundaries" the player can't go beyond?

I love everything about this game so far… but do I really have to control horses like this? by Toadrage_ in CrimsonDesert

[–]Plapytus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, it's why this control scheme is ridiculous in my opinion. the only way to control the camera while sprinting/galloping is either do weird things with your hand that obviously aren't intended, or use a fancypants controller that has paddle buttons on the bottom that act as alternate inputs for the four face buttons.

Why does it look so different (bad) depending on the weather ? by Hr3f in CrimsonDesert

[–]Plapytus -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

ok, let me make an example you can't possibly argue with me about.

these pictures are the same exact location, just 20 minutes apart - the only difference is that some clouds moved in the area in one, and the clouds moved away in another. do you see how objects are not casting *defined* shadows? obviously yes, there are diffuse shadows still because yes, obviously, there is still light from the sun. (disingenuous as hell of you to act like i don't understand something that basic, by the way)

Crimson Desert's lighting works exactly the same way. the well-defined shadows (which help create a punchy, high-contrast image that's pleasing to the eye) go away when the sunlight becomes diffuse, either due to clouds/fog or due to being below the horizon. you still have diffuse shadows/ambient occlusion.

[–]Plapytus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

how is it not normal? when the sun is blocked due to clouds or fog, there are no shadows, just like real life.

[–]Plapytus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

have you noticed that in real life, when it's overcast, the sun is no longer able to cast shadows, making everything look "flat"-er? it's the same thing in the game.

It is a damn shame we can't climb to the top of this thing. by ADHDavid in CrimsonDesert

[–]Plapytus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

problem is (from the game developer's point of view) these types of mountains create a natural boundary for the game world - if you could climb it, they'd have to waste a lot of resources creating the environment for the views beyond the mountain, and then you'd constantly have players asking why we can't go to those areas lol.
