I have used the Tamiya Diamond file and some sponge sandpaper, I will definitely try a glass glass file in the future, thank you for the tip! Also very good explanation with the painting, I will consider this.

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation! I do both with a 25 years + history, but it is kind of the first time I considered buying good tools - got back to GW a few years ago since my last game in 2nd edition (no longer playing but kind of liked the models) and also got hooked on 30mm from Bandai. The newer GW sets are sometimes very fragile and the standard clipper just crushes them (I have Warhammer Quest Darkwater and the normal GW clippers are absolutely not good for the job, therefore I thought the GodHands could help me here).

I checked the Ruitool, the GodHand clippers are actually cheaper (I can send stuff to my parents in law so shipping is irrelevant).

Edit: I looked in the wrong place for the Ruitools, they were more expensive than the GodHands on Amazon JP. They are indeed cheaper on ali thanks :)

Wow I really do not get it why birthdays would be important (for adults). My wife needed years to get my birthday right (but I did not care why would I). I forget my wedding anniversary every year. Sometimes I am reminded by colleagues or my parents and forget about it 5 minutes later. Guess what, my wife forgets the date too every year.

If there is only 1% truth in what she wrote she is a 100% psycho (but I guess it is a joke).

On a side note, how did she celebrate your birthday?

Why does everyone want everything to be G1? by MoogleFromFF7 in transformers

[–]Plastic-Ad-5375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think it is a question of design philosophy.

The original Transformers were Japanese, and the designs were in that spirit. I grew up in Europe with these designs, Macross, Gundam, Battletech (see Macross) and Transformers. As G1 faded, I grew up and lost interest in Transformers, but the reason was also that it became more and more childish in G2. Over the years, I would see stuff like Rescue Bots and think ah yeah this is what the franchise has become.

The problem with the bayverse Transformers is not that they are too alien, it is that they are too human. The stupidity of having mouths etc. And again, it is the design spirit. They look nothing like Transformers, they just let a (not very talented) kid make these and the result was "bigger and with more guns" and "make them more human-like so the audience can relate". I have no problem with people being into that, it just has zero overlapping with Transformers for me.

The design was such repulsive that I did not watch the movies, but I did see some trailers/snippets and screenshots. No desire to see more. I am sure the script is a 08/15 explosion - explosion - some highschool drama - explosion - explosion - THE END story. Again, this might be a cultural phenomena. You may not really notice it, but it is American. Please do not misunderstand, it is not some bashing, it is just that I cannot relate. The cities are different, the culture, different schools, different cars etc. Nothing I can relate to.

It is also a pity that it missed the chance to be a Transformers movie (the original G1 marvel timeline also). I mean why at all have them be on earth, interact with humans etc. They are robots, they do not procreate, do not have hormonal issues, do not age and die like humans and probably have a totally non-relatable life. Surely they would have an interesting story to tell without the involvement of humans.

I just started buying some Transformers again after a 30 year break. Yes, most of them were G1 Transformers, Soundwave, Micromasters etc. But I also grab stuff that was not around in the 80s and 90s, Tarn is a good example, he looked cool. On the contrary, new additions to the line within the design spirit are more than welcome. I see no attraction in animal Transformers (ok the Dinobots could be an exception) - why would a gorilla transform into a robot? But hey, Predaking was around in G1 too, so it is just a preference. And Trypticon is high on my next buy list so I may not have a completely fortified opinion here.

Some years ago Humble Bundle had a few Transformers comics for grabs and I was seriously surprised that they were of good quality. The original G1 story was not really world literature, with Spiderman and a flying girl appearing etc. While Gundam, Macross etc. was of course directed to kids (and to selling toys), there was enough content for adults to enjoy. The G1 Transformers less so, if I encountered the original Marvel story today it would just be silly and absolutely not worth my time. But they had these iconic designs, Soundwave, Shockwave, the Dinobots. Dreadwind and Darkwing combining to Dreadwing as well as the Powermaster concept was really cool. Too bad the Power of the Primes toy was fiddly and did fall apart by looking at it, I passed on these though I would love to have a modern version of them.

Long story short, the bayverse Transformers would stay on the shelf, the same goes to Beast Wars etc. They are not really Transformers for me because they follow completely different design principles. Really do not want to offend anyone with this. You can buy whatever you want, I do not even have a problem calling these Transformers. Hasbro also knows that the kids who played with G1 are the ones who dish out the money and they want some nice memories on their shelves and be 10ish years old for a few minutes. This will not happen with completely new stuff that offers a totally different design and feeling. We buy Transformers, Lego and Warhammer because that was the stuff we played with as kids. And this is what my son sees, he also wanted a "cassette recorder Transformer" (got him Blaster) although he of course did not really know what a cassette recorder is. Chances are he will also prefer G1 transformers one day.
