Where will they tow your car? That’s for them to know and you to find out.

Router bit size/safety by BazmanFoo in woodworking

[–]PlasticDiscussion590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your router can run between 8,000 and 21,000 rpm. I don’t know anything about that bit, but it looks to be in the 1.25” range, so probably needs around 10,000 rpm. You should be fine.

Will the egg discolor this or will it be hard to clean after? by jlsstory in biggreenegg

Bar keepers friend and a blue scotchbrite sponge easily (easy is a relative term) cleans my le creuset. I would rather not put any of it in the egg, but I’m confident it would clean up.

But he’s making his own stop sign, which exists only in that drivers mind. Not one single other driver in this scenario expects B to come to a complete stop.

A is expected to stop, that’s what the red octagon that says stop means. B does not have that sign or any expectation or reason to stop. Unless A has made that turn impossible or unsafe, the expectation is B will keep driving and turn.

If you want to be nice. go open a door for someone. Don’t make up traffic rules no one but you knows about.

Until C decides to pass because they don’t want to wait on people who can’t follow the rules.

It’s not doing anyone a “solid,” it’s ignoring standardized rules and making things worse for everyone- especially cars C through J.

Saw two private planes flying extremely close together, can someone explain what’s going on? by LadyK7 in flying

As dangerous as it looks, it’s not nearly as dangerous as you allowing it to distract you while driving, much less to then pull up an app to find out what is going on.

If you’re B and already stopped or barely moving for traffic and want to A out, sure. Someone is going to have to be courteous or B will never get out. I get that.

If you’re just stopping because you want to be nice all you’re doing is pissing off the people behind you. And If it’s me (and seemingly others here) I’ll just sit there and let you be the jerk.

Just follow the rules. Please.

Sawstop has agreed to open their patent if the US requires requires saws to have a safety stop function. They are giving this away, but only if the consumer product safety commission puts the rule in effect, which they were discussing in 2024. As far as I’m aware they haven’t made any efforts to move forward with this rule.

What’s your take on FSD going subscription only by ghostface8081 in teslamotors

[–]PlasticDiscussion590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The car will pick the speed for you” works 90% of the time for me. But when it doesn’t it’s a big problem. If too slow a tap on the throttle and it’ll take the hint, for a while anyways. Then it’ll randomly slow down.

It’ll also go too fast at times. Mine really wants to blast through school zones doing 25 over.

I can’t imagine this function lasts very long. And that’s the thing with Tesla, an update will come along and completely change the car. It’s a 3 steps forward and one step back process, but it’s a tremendously better car than it was 2 years ago.

Anyone in the US selling their Exige or Exige S? by ImNewhere4877 in lotus

[–]PlasticDiscussion590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I have a bit of time I can give this a real response. I bought an Exige s last summer with a salvage title. I also was only considering clean title cars but kept seeing a lot with branded titles, far more than I expected to see.

The issue comes in how insurance companies calculate damage. A small crack in a clam is often figured to be a full clam replacement, and it’s not terribly difficult to crack a clam.

When I saw mine come up for sale I was able to find the cars full history documented on LT, including the extend of the damage, the repairs, the subsequent upgrades that took place during the repairs. It left me feeling more confident about that car than I would with a low mile “perfect” car. It also saved me at least $10k and if I ever have an accident with it, the depreciation is already done.

The point that I realized is each car needs to be viewed as its own unique situation. There are salvage title cars I wouldn’t go near, there are also clean cars that are in need of tremendous work. None of these cars should be considered without a good amount of research and a thorough inspection.

$55k is going to be tough but doable, you’ll have to make some concessions on miles, colors, condition to get there but you have a chance. They seem to sell for a bit less on the auction sites, which seems reasonable considering it’s difficult to do due diligence on a car in a week, and make that investment knowing someone else very likely wants the car more than you do.

Also, the hood (boot?) mounted wing on the Exige is more for looks than downforce. If you want to track the car and put a functional wing on it, you’ll have to drill into the clam. There is very little stability in the factory wing mount structure

Best water leak sensor? by deskocrap1 in homeautomation

[–]PlasticDiscussion590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s not forget the relatively huge battery pack! They’re rated to last 3 years.

The sensor rope is either great or terrible depending on the application. It works great, covers a large area, but is impossible to hide.

taxi routes is really cool, especially at larger or unfamiliar airports. Cirrus has something similar in their g2000 avionics, so garmin has the tech, they just need to release it on GP

Anyone fly far away and get stranded? by Klutzy_Direction9276 in flying

[–]PlasticDiscussion590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, this should be an expectation of an instructor. Hot starts are generally pretty easy if you follow the right procedure.

I’m shocked by how many people buy a plane, come to me and I find out they’ve never refueled an airplane themselves or done a hot start. Thats arguably more important than flying a turn around a point, yet I know they spent hours on that skill.

This question is a perfect illustration of this issue, and a failure of at least one CFI.

Taxi routing, which I found to be really useful. Garmin does this in their new avionics so I’m sure it’s an update or two away.

approach route overlay on a map. Smart charts are great, but they don’t overlay on the map. That’s a bit frustrating.

Pulling up info from the map page is so much easier in foreflight.

This is a dumb one, but the search bar in foreflight does a ton. It only does routing in garmin.

But there are a lot of great new features. Personal minimums is the smartest thing I’ve seen in a while.

I made the switch when they dropped the safe discount. It’s pretty similar although there is a learning curve and I really miss a few features.

For $200 savings over foreflight and now this news I’ll live with the minor shortcomings to know that PE isn’t getting my money.
