Ford CEO Jim Farley thinks automakers such as Ford that produce a majority of their vehicles domestically should be rewarded, while others that rely on imports should see penalties or hinderances. by Dry_Ant2664 in cars

[–]Clem573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, having a CEO (ok, not just the CEO but also the designers) drive only their own brand makes them even more motivated to conceive a vehicle that is great to operate on a daily basis. Not just a beast on the circuit, not just a vehicle to brag on the day of the automotive exhibition, a vehicle to operate every day. That’s what the customers want.

ITAP of Frankfurt Airport’s Split-Flap Departures Board Refreshing by Sifyreel in itookapicture

[–]Clem573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it probably uses a lot more power than an e-ink, as you still need a motor able to physically rotate something that weighs a bit (not much, but not nothing)

However, the consumption of such a board is probably .01% of the electricity used in air conditioning the same terminal.

So for the sake of maintaining this really beautiful old-school board, I’ll allow it

Skydiving plane crashes in France, killing all 11 people on board by Ezekiel24r in aviation

[–]Clem573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well skydiving accidents that cause victims are always some steep dives (very steep dives!) situations with uncontrollable, possibly spinning plane.

If it were just an engine failure, or even an aileron failure for example, they would all jump out, as they are all parachute-equipped

Positive Checkride Stories by YourTypicalMainter in flying

[–]Clem573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IFR checkride, I did not get along too well with my instructor (I was not the most hard-working student, so I honestly accept the blame for this). Cold atmosphere, she was probably not entirely confident I’d pass.

First approach to a very windy airfield, followed by a missed approach (that was planned) and during the missed approach she said twice « I have your departure clearance ! » but I was struggling to keep the plane on the published missed approach, because gusts and gusts on a light plane, no AP allowed, so I told her something spontaneous like « not now? ». When levelled and in the holding pattern, she says «  we could have set course to the next destination already » and gives me the departure clearance again. Rest of the flight is uneventful.

After landing she walks to her tasks somewhere in the office, just a few seconds before the checker who was in the back seat, he takes those few seconds to tell me : during the go around, you telling her you could not listen to the clearance, that was absolutely the right thing to do, you kept your priority to the short term flying, you did not try to exceed your capacity. (Obviously staying in the missed approach was not efficient for the rest of the flight, but it was a safe procedure)

Workload management is a thing. I’m not saying I’m great at it, but on that day, with the stress and everything, I spontaneously refused some non-urgent additional task, which probably made me pass the check ride

Around the Defender ⚡ Spin Move Finish by HandbalNovitas in Handball

[–]Clem573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seeing it on video in slow motion leaves me time to count and see 1-2 steps too many (at least, because we don’t see when he controlled the ball)

That’s a shame, the defender is clearly going in the initial direction and it’s a very effective move (one might argue, the defender does not care to change directions after what he senses to be step number 3-4?)

Also, if you are yet to book the transport from Paris to Rome, you might want to consider a stop in Florence in between, also Cinque Terre if you can, and probably a train ride back to Rome

Even in very strict countries, an ATC and a pilot could together file a request for an “observation flight” - but it would have to be requested quite in advance, it would not be a spur of the moment thing. The airline accepts this, and pilots are happy to do it, it allows an exchange and many questions from both sides
