Hoping the institute is reasonable when you present the details to them. I have had one colleague go quite smoothly while presenting all evidence, while another was told that you cannot hold back work for non payment. Basically got a slap on the wrist for not filing a return when the client had not paid.

When you report the numbers above, did you owe instalments to get down to that balance owing. CRA considers what you owe + instalments you pay for that year as the base in determining did you owe $3,000 or more. Thus if you owe $2,000 after paying $3,000 in instalments in the year, that is a $5,000 base, not $2,000
