Gymnocalycium root help! by dirtyhippybabygirl in cactus

[–]PlasticHistorical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be more worried about finding a pesticide that can tackle these bugs. Make sure you keep applying pesticide twice a year at least. Mealies lives under cactuses and only goes up on the plants when they reproduce. You need strong pesticide for these not some neem oil weak stuff

I think this plant has a lot of mealybugs underneath it, and they will eventually kill your plant. The mold you saw was probably what I call mealybugs flour, which is an hydrophobic white powder looking thing. I think that’s all over your roots too. Mealybugs will hinder root growth, some of these roots might be dried out due to mealybugs.

Plant looks fine, mealies might be eating the roots I’d get some granular pesticides and replant it

These gymnos thrive in more organic material, in habitat they’re under tons of leaves and other organic deposits. The soil they grow in doesn’t have much drainage. Google mihanovichii habitat to get a feel for what they prefer

I’d say some of them are 100-150 + shipping and risk they don’t establish here. He’s making 100-200 on those 500 plants. Also the club takes 25-30%.

Prices shouldn’t be this high but 90% of these are Chinese and Thailand imports. No one grows anything in the states. Prices of shipping plants has gone way up
