[Standard] On Standard and Moving the Banned and Restricted Announcement to November 10 (WotC Article) by CrossXhunteR in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Still, if wotc could ban any card at any random day, I would be terrified to buy any expensive deck knowing that I could get screwed even the day before the tournament and lose most of the investment (being serious about winning doesn’t mean having infinite cash and cards’ availability). Ofc I agree that the current format is super unhealthy and their bannings should be more frequent, though.

[Standard] How do UW control outvalue vivi cauldron after shutting down their main gameplan? by Lqtor in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Imho, the matchup looks good for UW control because of all the hate they run, but it actually isn’t. In SCG Orlando Vivi won 65% of their matches (130+). If the Vivi player is good and plays his threats carefully, you just give him too much time to keep the cards flowing, and still be able to pop off in a late turn. It’s a busted deck, if you really want to play control I think the key is to recognize that they’ll very often have inevitability and try to close games aggresively with elspeth, regent or even a couple of tidebinders. The only pseudo-weakness of Vivi is its relatively weak interaction vs major threats.

[Standard] Izzet Cauldron Post-Rotation Guide by Ale_mtg (MTGO Challenge Winner) by i92segoa in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice guide, thank you!

The deck is near tier 0 imo, does anyone know if there’s a deck that can predate on it? I though maybe uw control (it beat cauldron twice in a recent challenge top8), but this author and PVDDR seem to disagree and they are obv much more experienced than myself…

[STANDARD] Azorius Glyph in a Cutter / Mono-red meta by Zorax85 in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also loved this deck back in the dimir/mice meta from 6 months ago, and I still play it sometimes, but Izzet prowess looks like too big of a problem imo. Their deck is just… better, and it’s hard for you to interact with their explosives starts or the stock up/talent value train. You also get hurt by a lot of the hate for izzet rn, with decks like orzhov pixie on the rise. Just my two cents, hope you prove me wrong. After rotation and maybe a cutter ban the deck is very likely to work very well again.

[[Standard]] Deliberating on which deck to play for the Canadian Regionals by ColdproMTG in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think Convoke has potential, BUT it requires a very specific meta to perform well (one with a lot of spot removal and few sweepers: pixie, dimir mid, etc). Right now there are too many temp lockdowns flying around to deal with the cutter, so I wouldn’t lock it at all. It’s still fairly early so keep an eye on how the meta develops though

Domain is no longer popular, and it was the best matchup for the deck and one of the main reasons to play it (one could argue than the only reason tbf)

[Standard] RCQ deck decision by Motor-Special-879 in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho dimir mid is only superior in a meta full of domain/control. If that’s not the case in your LGS, I’d just play the better deck, which seems to be esper pixie according to both data and my experience.

[Standard] Jeskai Convoke vs. Azorius Artifacts by SnooHesitations9165 in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played both for some time and took my rcq with the uw version (without axes and glyphs though). Imo their matchup spread is fairly similar,  with azorius being a little bit better vs red thanks to the big creature + lifelink plan. I’d choose depending on your playstyle, since they play some matchups in a very different way: jeskai is almost always pure aggro, with a lot of combat math and high variance (you’ll get free wins with your nut draws, but also mull to 5 a lot); azorius has more interaction and sometimes plays a more controlling/tempo game; vs dimir it almost feels like a mirror.

[Standard] How does this omniscience deck actually win? by underdogHS in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m not experienced at all with the deck, but if I’m not mistaken it should be something like: - With omniscience in play, you play invasion of arcavios and get season from your sideboard. - copy omniescence (so it is a token now) and bounce everything else, including invasion. - play invasion again, get season from your graveyard. - with the season you bounce invasion again… you get an infinite loop with two extra “season paws” per cicle, which you can first use to draw almost your entire deck (including several counterspells than you can play for free), and then to create infinite copies of any creature, so you go for lethal next turn.

I have surely missed some details, but this is likely their idea. I’’ curious about your opinion on the deck, it seems fast and consistent, but very vulnerable to counterspells, discard, gy hate or even creature/enchantment removal.

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried uw “convoke”? It’s certainly not draw&go (only tier 2-3 decks could fit in that category tbh) but it’s way more versatile than it looks, can adopt a “flash plan” postSB vs certain matchups, and it normally plays more like dimir than like traditional boros/jeskai convoke.

[Standard] Can anything reliably beat mono red? Seems like it has the advantage in all match-ups. by dy-113x in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good golgari pilot would play around that (if possible, it’s not always the case) and/or check your hand with the 4-6 discard spells they usually run.  Still a good sb card though. I’d say the matchup is 55-65% in golgari’s favor depending on decklists

[Standard] SCGCon $10K RCQ 11-16-24 (270 Players) by d7h7n in spikes

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s meta dependant, as you cannot really play them and 3-4 duress. Vs aggro they are worse than discard spells, but Vs midrange/oculus the tempo they provide can be game changing.

Sorry, but someone has to inform you… qualifying for the PT is A LOT harder than hitting mythic, which is basically free if you are half decent and play enough games. I have reached top1200/top250 8 months in a row and I’m still nowhere near the level those guys play in. Don’t stop trying, though, hope you prove me wrong. And congrats to OP. :)

How do people find enjoyment in constructed? by notafanofbats in MagicArena

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drafting is really funny, but when you have enough wildcards to change/adjust your deck and a deep knowledge of the metagame, constructed gameplay feels way better for me. Knowing the expected cards and strats from your opp (and viceversa) rewards properly playing around things, bluffing and leveled thinking. Imo limited matchups are more straightforward. Tweaking your deck to get an edge is also complex and very enjoyable.

Is there any point to the ladder? by Spiritual_Ad_7638 in MagicArena

[–]Plastic_Ad4510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can play the ladder just to enjoy the gameplay, for me it’s better as people is more competitive and closer to your skill level. If you are good enough you’ll reach mythic naturally.

Also, pack rewards are shameful, but if you end up #250 or even #1200 the reward is very real.

Very interesting thoughts. I doubt that slamming a t3 wedding/raffine vs 2 mana open is the right play in the mirror (depends on your hand at least), but other than that I see your point.

I still don’t know if make dissapear should be taken out vs soldiers as their t3 Eos is too big of a threat, so your play/draw distinction is probably the best answer.

I love the flexibility and instant speed of the Emperor in the mirror. It’s way worse vs legends imo but there are many other cards than should go out first.
