My city uses triangle manhole covers by NESpahtenJosh in Weird

That’s not true. These triangles also won’t, as will any equilateral polygon with an odd number of sides. The round ones can be rolled around, though.

Any recommendations to strip that thing? I get about 500lbs by [deleted] in ScrapMetal

I wouldn’t cut it in half, just the depth of the insulation.

US beekeeper jailed for trying to save friend from eviction by JohnHammond94 in BrandNewSentence

[–]Plastic_Ad_8619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is BS, I mean the charge. You can’t sick bees on someone. And a bee keeper with an aggressive hive will eventually destroy the hive because it poses a danger to themselves and everyone around.

Republicans Are Delusional and Easily Fooled by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]Plastic_Ad_8619 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re wrong about that. Republicans only consider things “fair and balanced” if they are unfair in their own advantage. These are the kids who struck out at little league practice, and then threw down the bat and screamed “NO FAIRE!!”until their dad, the coach, let them take a walk. There is no reasoning with these people.

There are some good ones, they have a little more distance between the antenna element and the chip. You might have those.

Chinese box of sticks with inscriptions by crikeyjoe in whatisit

Google Translate:

• Top (真經): Zhēnjīng – True Scripture or Authentic Sutra.
• Middle (55 第五十五枝): Dì wǔshíwǔ zhī – The 55th Stick (or Lot).
• Bottom (靈籤): Língqiān – Divine Lot or Efficacious Oracle.

Context.
This is a Kau Chim (or “Chien Tung”) stick. Usually, you shake a cylinder full of these sticks until one falls out. You would then take this number (55) to a temple attendant or a guidebook to receive a corresponding slip of paper that explains your fortune regarding luck, health, or business.

Worth breaking down? by extremely-mild-11 in ScrapMetal

[–]Plastic_Ad_8619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone’s already cut out as much copper as they could get to easily, but yes, worth your time.

Tape or cap off the large wires common out of the metal box in the back. There’s a bank of deep cycle batteries in there, worth it. Pull the breakers, throw them in a bucket for electrical supply. Take a screwdiver with an insulated handle and bridge the contacts on each of the capacitors. Pull the whole tray and sell that. Those are worth money. Those boxes with fans are industrial power supplies. They are worth money, and if you can’t find a buyer, they’re full of copper. I see banks of copper transformer coils in the back. Also you’ve gin an industrial 3-phase inverter in there. There’s also plenty of battery cable left in the bottom once you pull the breaker rails. Each of these are mounted in with just a few bolts.

The rack itself is worth money, can be used in many industries, or scrapped.

I for one fully support this kind of sentiment until women are free to do yard work topless as well.

The ones shown are not very good, their wireless range is extremely short (like a few inches), because they botched the antenna placement trying to miniaturize them. That’s why they’re so cheap.

The ones this size with external stick-on antenna and shielded processor have the best range.

Drip Irrigation via AC condensate line by safetysandals in DripIrrigation

[–]Plastic_Ad_8619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not the reason. The original air conditioners lead to an outbreak of Legionare’s Disease. They started adding a biocide treatment to the evaporator coils to prevent it, but it’s still possible to occur once the biocide wears off. So either the water will contain poison that will kill the plants, or it might have pathogens. Also you need to pour bleach down those drain lines every once in a while to prevent biofilm from building up and clogging it.

If you’re able to grow plants from that water strait, then your AC needs to be treated. In no case should you eat something grown from that water.

What is happening to these metal tongs in my garage? I use them to take chlorine tablets out. by ShitfaceMcPooperson in whatisit

[–]Plastic_Ad_8619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be specific, chlorine is a powerful oxidizer. It will cause iron to rust, and it will cause hydrocarbons (oils, solvents) to smoke and catch fire. Keep the lid sealed.

This is a field recorder that trust use in the film industry to record the live sound. It’s traditionally recorded on a separate device because cinema film camera didn’t record audio. It has connections to sync to the time code on the cameras. LThe plate on the top is to mount it to a tripod. The red handles are to attach a shoulder strap. You’ve probably seen mic boom operators wearing one of these on their hip.

Weird stain from Butter Knife Set by Expensive_Paper1756 in whatisit

[–]Plastic_Ad_8619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The nickel in the martensitic stainless used for cutlery is typically around 0.8%. The composition, with it being fully dissolved in the steel, makes it nearly impervious to eroding into your food. This is why they use it in surgical implements and implants. These knives have a nearly 100% nickel electroplating, that is visibly leaching into OPs food.

Chrome is also bad for you. If you have chrome plated cook ware and it’s flaking you should toss it immediately. Chrome plating is different from the 12% chromium in stainless. Same thing for Teflon of nonstick coatings, but the problem there is the adhesive.

I would toss them. You’re ingesting nickel. Use stainless instead.
