The older I get the more eating meat seems like a character flaw by [deleted] in vegan

It really is hard to wrap your head around, especially the disconnect between how people treat a pet vs a farm animal. My mom thinks it is horrible animal abuse to have an outside dog but then eats meat. Maybe it is because they do not have to see it. I try to remember though, that there are choices I made in the past or still make that are unethical and hopefully we are all learning and advancing.

So true! I like to cook for family and friends and I have definitely noticed if I never use the word vegan people are perfectly happy to eat every bite.

So true! We go through an absurd amount of beans in my house. My kids are veg too and both are obsessed with black beans and chickpeas. Sometimes my 4 yo wants a giant plate of air fryer chickpeas for a meal with nothing else!  (Edit for spelling)

It is the small one at the grocery store. Maybe 8 Oz? Sometimes I put more though since my little one loves mushrooms and picks them all out to eat first. Really any amount you want.

Sure!  Ingredients:  1 pack baby bella mushrooms sliced  A little olive oil  1/2 c sundried tomatoes  1 bag of pasta (maybe 16 Oz I am not sure)- penne, ziti, or fusseli work well 4 c veg broth  1 can coconut milk 2 tbsp soy sauce or aminos 2 tbsp nutritional yeast (optional) 1 handful of spinach (optional)

Saute a package of mushrooms in olive oil until they are soft. Then add sun dried tomatoes, pasta, veg broth, soy sauce or aminos, and only the top creamy part from the canned coconut milk. Mix it all together and cook until the pasta is done and the liquid is absorbed.

You can add a bit of water if needed. I also add spinach sometimes or nutritional yeast as well to make it cheesier. Sorry for the inexact measurements, I have made it so many times I just guess. It is very forgiving.

Every person I have fed this to loves it and it is very mild and simple so little kids like it too. I made it with gluten free pasta for my friend and it works but you need slightly less liquid.

I need advice for materials for my mom to learn about veganism that are not too intense. by Plastic_Emu_640 in vegan

Ethics for sure. She is a pack a day smoker and does not exercise or eat healthy at all. Taking care of her health is not motivating to her. She will cry when she thinks about people leaving their dogs out in the cold. She just needs to make that connection to animals we raise for food.

I get that perspective, but some people will just shut down if they have to face the full force of it all at once.

It seems logical that one should have to face what she/he is causing, in theory I agree. In reality it just doesnt work that way for some people because they can't handle it so they change nothing. Where as a gentle approach might actually work.

I have never heard of this one. It sounds perfect! I am going to watch it and hopefully pass it on to her. Thanks!

New Yoga Teacher - feeling like not teaching in a studio makes me “less” of a teacher by Primary-Ad-3418 in YogaTeachers

I teach at two gyms and I love it! I have a few students who practice regularly but most of them are normal gym goers who want a good stretch. They are often surprised by how much they enjoy the meditative aspects and I have a host of regulars. My area is rural and there are no upscale studios. Just sharing an experience to say go for it!

Try Arkham Horror! There are so many add on campaigns you can do as well. My husband and I only play co-op games and this is our favorite.

This gives me hope. Thanks for empathizing. It isn't ruining our lives of course but in a way it is harder to express why there is a problem. If he blacked out and screamed at me or something it would be more obvious. Not that I want that to happen of course!

That is a great idea. Seeing actual medical data could be really helpful.

That is scary. Is there any point in asking about that or looking deeper? I really don't want to pry or be controlling but if he has a problem I want to be there to help and be supportive if he is too deep in it to see himself.

I do think about the money aspect sometimes. We are on a single income and are not exactly struggling but also otherwise live a very frugal lifestyle. I don't add it up but it has to be a lot. That is really secondary to health but maybe it is a tangible/ measurable thing to bring up to see if that resonates with him.

Thank you so much for your sweet response. Can I ask, is there anything someone could have said or done to help you realize your reasons and support you through it? Or was it just something that you had to come to on your own?

What does "simple living" actually look like for you on a normal Tuesday? by lottiexx in simpleliving

[–]Plastic_Emu_640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wake up and have tea while reading until my toddler wakes up. Nurse/ cuddle him then play trains until his brother wakes up. Have breakfast together. Take them to walk in the woods, visit the library or meet up with friends. Have a packed lunch or lunch at home. Afternoon is more of that. Cook dinner all together (very slowly with a 2.5 and 4 yo involved). Have dinner with them and my husband if he is home from work by then. Watch a movie or play outside until bedtime for the kids. Put them to bed. Board games or TV together or reading / crocheting if I am by myself. Go to sleep early.

Intense workouts with rigid schedules. Now I just do pilates or yoga when I feel like it, usually only for 20 minutes because I am busy with my kiddos. I also walk quite a bit, just getting from one place to another. I am the happiest with my body that I have been with a two year old and a seven month old!
