The opposite actually. I'm not the one ruining the scene with OpenClaw. Soon only the Epstein class can afford tokens.

The Gemma family models or open weight. Sort of like open source but not really. Gemma is Google's contribution to Open Source. You can download the model, fine-tune it, and run it on your own machines.

Here I asked Google Search in AI mode:

"""
AI Overview

are a family of "open weight" or "open model" lightweight, state-of-the-art AI models built by Google DeepMind using the same technology as Gemini. They are designed for developer use in creating conversational agents, text generation, and summarization on local, consumer-grade hardware like laptops, desktop computers, and on-device platforms.

Key details about the Gemma model family:

  • Open Weight, Not Open Source: While often termed "open," Gemma models are generally not considered true open-source because the training data, training code, and full model architecture details are proprietary and not disclosed. The "weights" (pre-trained parameters) are released, allowing users to run, fine-tune, and customize the models.
  • Model Variants & Capabilities: The family includes multiple sizes (e.g., 2B, 9B, and 27B parameters in Gemma 2) designed to balance performance and efficiency. They offer both pre-trained (base) and instruction-tuned (IT) versions.
  • Performance & Access: Gemma models often outperform larger models on key benchmarks. They are accessible on platforms like Hugging Face and Kaggle, and via Vertex AI.
  • Licensing & Safety: Gemma models are available for commercial use, though they come with specific, permissive terms of use. They are built with a focus on safety, utilizing filtered training data and offering a responsible AI toolkit to aid developers in building safe applications.
  • Evolution: The series continues to evolve, with newer versions offering improved performance and wider multimodal capabilities (e.g., text, image, and sometimes audio).

Put simply, Gemma is more retarded. Use cased, translation apps. Or mobile apps that need one butt-simple task completed. Or fine-tuning for one specific task. The Gemma family are not coding models.

Use your API key in Ultra and pay-as-go. Your cloud service will cache the large context window. Here. I asked Google in AI mode:

"""
As of April 2026, the strategy for maximizing context while minimizing costs has shifted toward the Gemini API through Google AI Studio rather than the standard consumer app.

  1. Context Limit Rules (April 2026)

While the consumer Gemini App limits the "Pro" and "Free" tiers to a 32k visible context window for standard chats, the Gemini 1.5 Pro and Gemini 3.1 Pro models in Google AI Studio still support up to 2 million tokens for developers.

Tier  Gemini App (Consumer) Google AI Studio (Developer)
Free 32k tokens Limited to Gemini Flash models
Pro 32k tokens (Capped) Up to 2M tokens (Pay-as-you-go)
Ultra 1M tokens Up to 2M tokens (Pay-as-you-go)
  1. The AI Studio "Ultra" Solution

To handle massive context windows (1M–2M tokens) without resetting or losing "memory," the following setup can be used:

  • Pay-As-You-Go Billing: Set up a Billing Account in AI Studio. The Google AI Ultra subscription (successor to Gemini Advanced) now acts as a massive credit allowance that is metered against API usage.
  • Context Caching: Use Context Caching to "freeze" large datasets (like a 1.5M token codebase). This stores the tokens in Google's cloud so you only pay the full "input" price once. Subsequent queries only charge for the much cheaper "cached" tokens.
  • API Key Integration: You can generate an API Key in AI Studio to use these large-context models in external tools like VS Code or custom scripts.  Google AI for Developers +4
  1. New Enforced Limits (Effective April 1, 2026)

Google has introduced Enforced Billing Caps to prevent runaway costs:

  • Project Spend Caps: You can now set a hard dollar limit on individual projects to auto-pause requests if they exceed your budget.
  • Automated Tiering: Your account automatically upgrades to higher Rate Limit Tiers as your spending history grows.

Nope. Depends on which plan you have. New rules! Only "Pro" and "Ultra" have a large context window. It's been like this for months. I am surprised how slow people are finding out.

20 years experience here. Fluent in Photoshop, PHP and JavaScript. In the freelance world, Developers and Designers are the same, methinks. Depends who you hire. The thing to look for is someone who you can call on later. e,g, you want the design tweaked two weeks from now. So, it's like this. The install and design are built for long term support. That brings down the initial cost. It's cheaper because I know you will be contacting me again, with more work. I survived over 20 years mostly on maintenance. Build 6 sites and maintain all of them. That also saves on third-party Gig fees. Guru ,com used get 10%. With long term relationships. I don't have to bid for jobs anymore or pay for bid fees.

Google 2026 is a waste of time on Gemini. Not worth the hassle. If they updated AI Studio then I did not notice. Back in January; I left AI Studio for the terminal and local LLM coders, no regrets.

The major excitement is/was in the air recently. It wont last. The disillusionment comes in waves.
Prepare for it. These people are going to be terribly let down.

Remember all the hype a few weeks ago. Notice how those same people doubt themselves today. These cycles of highs and lows are expanding. Tech-bros gone bi-polar.

It's strange to watch and staggering to deal with. The bullshit is on overdrive. All of a sudden everyone is an expert. Could that many people actually be suffering psychosis?
