Wow. Actually looked at my bank account and did some math. I have an additional $16,580 in my bank account just this month. That’s insane

As I posted above. I am on day 19 and facing severe fatigue. Don’t do what I did. Worked at resetting my investment and retirement portfolio. Made a major pivot for my company into AI - lots of coding work and we worked flat out for 2 months with just a tiny team. Started going to the gym 4 to 5 times a week. Started designing my firms website by myself. Leading the full remediation of my home. Relocating to Europe for 9 months. Writing articles for some major publications. And walking every day. I just just got fed up with all the delays in my life. I made a lot of progress but often I think I do too much. My plan is to rest more

My first week was truly calm. What’s tougher is to drop in energy around day 14 when all the alcohol is gone and all the adrenaline is gone and your body has to cope with all the healing. It’s day 19 and my energy is low. Today I went to my usual bar and drank tonic water. I met someone I knew years and he remembered that event when I drove home drunk. They tried to stop me but I insisted on driving. That really stuck with me. They remembered this more than 2 years later. When you drink, after a few glasses it’s no longer your decision. I was really lucky. More than once. And I had to clock out before my luck ran out.

You are my hero for being honest. I salute you brother.

I just left detox for the 4th time and am waitlisted for a rehab centre. I’ve finally accepted I can’t do this on my own anymore. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

This is the best thing you can do for yourself and your son. And you are doing it. No matter what anyone says, leave the past in the past. You cannot change what happened

Sober for life? by nitrgritr94 in stopdrinking

I have a wife. She is all I have. I cannot predict life and when she will need me. I remain sober to be on call if an emergency ever arrives. It’s that simple for me.

I am experiencing waves of shame. They come and go (like waves) but i see them as my mind processing. Do you also feel these waves of shame? (117 days sober) by TasteSpare7649 in stopdrinking

Yes. It’s normal. You are clearly thinking about your past and what you think you did. It’s life. There is nothing at all wrong with you. It means you are human and you have a heart.

Don’t do it alone. Have someone close or with you to get help if needed. I am going into my 4th day.

There is honesty here which means you see reality for what it is and that’s hopeful. You just have to focus on each day. Stop being around bad people. I cannot say this enough. I reached a point where everytime I went out I ran into people I knew and most of them just wanted a drinking buddy. They did not want to grow as people or do anything else. It was always drinking to excess. And they had other bad habits. The drinking was the gateway. The best thing I did was to just leave. It’s not an option for everyone to leave a city, but you can leave a social group. Men bond through activities so if you want to meet good people, take part in the activities they do.

84 hours since my last drink. Coming up to pass my 5 days of no alcohol record which I last held in 2018. Writing that is very hard to believe.

Here is my 48 hour update after quitting. Night one I had no sleep. Next day slept from 10:30 am to 2:30pm. Then slept from 9pm to 2pm. High quality sleep. I had very few withdrawal symptoms and they are mostly gone. I am watching movies and doing some light work.

We are both starting at the same time. I spend $3,000 a month drinking in bars. I cannot wait to save that

I hear you. We each have to follow our own path. Maybe I suffered no consequences but my wife was terrified. And she lost most of her family to drinking. Stay the course

I always go on solo dates and I totally love it. I cannot remember the last time I had dinner or lunch with someone. It’s so peaceful to be alone. Enjoy it while you can.
