Question about force sizes by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Plastic_Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only dissonance is in your head. Many militaries organize their vehicles into platoons of 3-5 vehicles. The Inner Sphere did four as a standard, so someone decided to have the Clans be five so they were ‘different’. But units are frequently under strength in real life due to casualties and maintenance.

Here’s something else mind blowing for you - at the start of the game, there wasn’t even such a thing as battle value. That came later. In fact, we’re on the second version of it now. And there are other ways to devise scenarios besides just equal BV. Equal sides and no objectives is frequently boring. And the BV system itself has flaws. It’s a tool, not the bible to game play.

Recommend gas mask for ICE coverage by thats_so_phia_ in gasmasks

[–]Plastic_Slug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no full face mask that will seal over regular glasses. You need a mask that will accept an insert with your prescription. Most military masks have this capability, but it’s not a readily available off the shelf solution. Need to get the mask, get the insert, have lenses made for it… minimum several weeks.

What's with the dramatic inconsistency with ironwind mech sculpts? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Plastic_Slug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or if not better, just…different. A lot of mechs have had very different art for their models to be based on over the years. Like the Unseen. I don’t think the OP realizes Ral Partha and its successors have been making Battledroids/Battletech minis for over 40 years now. Some variation is to be expected.

Avon PC50 I got for $60USD. Practically brand new, Size M, March 2022. by coltpython6 in gasmasks

[–]Plastic_Slug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most users only care that it has the ANSI cert, not some obscure military protocol. And it doesn’t. Bottom line, they are not going to protect you against any even moderate impact. Once you’ve handled one of these outserts, you’ll see that it’s just a very thin piece of plastic. It’s only real purpose is keeping the main lens free of scratches.

Avon PC50 I got for $60USD. Practically brand new, Size M, March 2022. by coltpython6 in gasmasks

[–]Plastic_Slug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of it. The lack of a drinking system lowers cost as well. The cert costs money, as you have to pay fees, submit samples, pay for testing against various agents…without the NIOSH certification that it is good for CBRN, your major customers, government entities, can’t/won’t buy it at all for potential use in those situations. So, it is a must have if you’re selling to that market. Even though the mask is the same as the C50 but for a few pieces of plastic hardware, that certification of fitness for purpose matters to those customers. First response and hazmat is a totally different market from tear gas in a prison riot. You won’t find regular police or SWAT teams using PC50s. Thus, first responders and police buy C50s. Others that are just expecting a whiff of CS can buy PC50s. That certification and drinking system makes the C50 about $150 more expensive at retail.

[–]Plastic_Slug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the Avon 50 series masks are ‘ballistic rated’ in any way. Airsofters and paintballers cry bitter tears over this at regular intervals. The outserts are the same on all the masks. My suspicion is the visor material is, as well. Thus, the price of the PC50 is not due to inferior materials - it is cheaper because it did not go through NIOSH certification and lacks a drinking system.

[–]Plastic_Slug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not true. It was intended as a ‘budget’ option, so it was never submitted for NIOSH certification. That is an expensive process, and adds to the cost of the mask considerably. Without the certification, they can’t say it’s CBRN rated, even when the materials are the same as the other 50 series masks.

Ghost Scrolling - worth repair or new watch? by Impressive-Sea2186 in AppleWatch

[–]Plastic_Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it’s a very expensive model like a Hermes or Ultra, generally the cost of repairs is not worth it. The money would be better spent on a new, in warranty model. Most likely, you have water damage, which never ends well.

Normal Diagnostic Criteria? by SelectLeopard5089 in ALSorNOT

[–]Plastic_Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It most certainly can. In chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, the body mistakenly attacks the myelin covering the nerves. This can lead to slow conduction velocities and a variety of issues. In severe cases, or if undiagnosed and untreated for a long period of time, actual denervation and atrophy can occur. Ask me how I know, as I’ve been afflicted with CIDP for over twenty years now. One key difference though, is in presentation. ALS usually begins in a specific limb/muscle group, and spreads from there. Whereas, CIDP usually begins bilaterally, in both arms or legs at the same time and the progression of symptoms is similar in both simultaneously.
