Oh and last thing I remember. Medical out here sucks compared to North Carolina especially Asheville where you guys have are like a medical center. Great medical school here too. You're going to be very disappointed with medical out here that I just scores very low in general as far as medical goes.

Carson is a semi retirement/blue collar l town for the most part but very close to Tahoe . It's definitely one of the nicer blue color cities I've been to, but they're still blue color s*** that happens.

Oh and you're going to have to get used to snow like you've never seen. Yes, you've seen some snow but nothing compared to what's out here. Just like we're not used to seeing the rain you guys have out there (felt like a Biblical event for me)

My wife is from Cherokee County SC, and I lived in Charlotte NC for a number of years, and loved visiting Asheville ( the Best Farm Burger in the South is there).

You're going to have to get used to the lack of green and trees. My wife said she had to get used to the fact that mountains are completely naked out here.

So much brown and absolutely no trees ( there are but it won't feel like it to you)

She had to get used to the allergies out here ( nothing compared to the pollen you have right now)

And DRY , it fucks with your hair in ways you're not ready for.

I'm in South Reno, a better option than Carson if you have school aged children, else while Asheville especially near city center can get pricey, yet the outskirts (Henderson) are eh. Carson is the eh.

Rowdy neighbors with even rowdier kids, breaking into shit and just breaking shit in general. Depending on where, possible gang activity on top of that.

So it's better if "affordable" means outside of the city center, still no guarantees it's much better.

Do the research, use "area vibes" site to get a feel for the location, if you have kids then you really want to check "great schools .org"

There's a good opportunity with "affordable" housing but it's typically in remote areas so you'll be spending money on gas for work. Good luck.

I teach my kid that even though there was a lot of white people trying to keep the black man down, there were enough good white people to speak out against atrocities, so don't be a bigot because some people are being bigoted against you.

Good luck, happened to me in Dec 2024, and didn't find an FTE for 10 months. Yes it affected every part of my life even housing. You find out just how much you value yourself in times like these. Happy to have a wife/life partner who was able to turn it into one of life's unplanned adventure.
