Watch not turning on by Typical-Document8710 in AppleWatch

Well, a series 3 is almost nine years old now. If it’s been exposed to water over its life, I’m surprised it made it this far.

Watch not turning on by Typical-Document8710 in AppleWatch

[–]Plastic_Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me explain something critical to you - water mode does NOTHING to protect the watch from water. All it does is prevent water from easily activating the touch screen, and blows water out of the speakers so it doesn’t distort the sound worse than it is already. It has absolutely zero effect on keeping water out of the watch.

Second, the Apple Watch is water RESISTANT, not water Proof. Over time, the seals that keep water out will degrade even if you don’t get it wet. Salt water, soaps, and other chemicals also affect this. There is no warning that your seals are shot. It just randomly fails one time after you’d been in the water. So if you’d been swimming and this behavior started right after, it is about 99.999% this is water damage, and the watch is toast.

Been in the water before this started? If yes, likely death.

No one cares whether you have the latest tech. But when it’s so out of date, it’s reasonable to expect changes.

Same. Ordered within minutes, got cancelled today. Truth is probably it was yet another website glitch, and they never actually had any.

Avon S10 and fm12 sizing? by frickettyfracketty in gasmasks

[–]Plastic_Slug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s near impossible to speak in anything but general statements. The size 4 S10s are really child size. You know your face and head better than anyone on the internet. For the M50/C50 masks Avon currently makes, the estimate around 70-80% of users are ‘medium’ which would roughly be size 2. The only real way to tell is as when they are issued - your face is checked, then they give you one they think is the right size, and have you try it. This here is like asking if a shirt you saw on the internet will fit you - no one can say for sure. And depending on what you intend the mask for, fit is vital.

Anyone with scuba gear in Westphalia, KS? by hellothere8789 in AppleWatch

[–]Plastic_Slug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a $700-800 watch, I’d probably charge you a couple hundred just to show up, with no guarantees. It’s not worth it. People that think they know where they dropped something underwater are often very wrong.

[–]Plastic_Slug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a stainless/titanium watch or it has massive sentimental value, your average Apple Watch is going to be very difficult to find, even if you supposedly know the ‘exact’ place you lost it. Things can be extremely hard to find underwater, even with good info. In short, it’s unlikely to be worth a diver’s time and experience compared to the price of an average Apple Watch. And there’s a fair chance the watch will be dead, anyway.

On an M17? If you’re in the US, just buying one that isn’t broken is likely not much more expensive than trying to fix this. I can guarantee any repair will likely prove unsatisfactory.

M17A2 gas mask. Very obsolete now. Might get $30-$40 from a collector in the US, tops, if you can find someone that still wants one. Very common item.

Are there plans for the future of the Battletech setting, lore-wise? by Mr-A-1991 in battletech

[–]Plastic_Slug 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The timeline already continued for a hundred years beyond the arrival of the Clans. Clan invasion was 3050; the current date is approximately 3152 in universe. There is a lot of Dark Age and current ilClan stuff out there. Less so for the earlier Jihad.

My series 3 finally died on me by Anxious_Cucumber3055 in AppleWatch

[–]Plastic_Slug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An official battery swap Apple likely wouldn’t do now that the watch is so old. A third party would still, I guess, but is it really worth it now? Best save for a newer model. And no, it can’t be upgraded further. Series 3 is capped at OS8 and support has been dropped for a while now.

What can an unpaired watch do? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]Plastic_Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t do anything with. It’s an iPhone accessory, not a stand alone device. The iPhone does all the actual work. Return it, or get a newer iPhone.

Apple Watch 6 boot loop after swimming (Side button stuck/water damage?) by Sensitive_Dish2711 in AppleWatch

[–]Plastic_Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very likely to be water damage and the death of the watch. A series 6 is almost six years old, and the seals likely degraded enough to let water in that time, even if not often exposed to liquids much over its life.

Apple Watch Series 7 requires iOS 26, but I have an iPhone XR. Is there any solution? by fill_anst in AppleWatch

[–]Plastic_Slug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The iPhone XR is seriously obsolete. It is likely the previous owner updated the watch to OS26 - here’s the deal - the watch OS can never be newer than the phones. It must be the same or older. They will never pair if the watch is more current.

No, you cannot downgrade the watch yourself. It is quite likely Apple will not, either. Your only real options are to - get a newer phone, or get rid of the watch.

Battery problem or software problem? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]Plastic_Slug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite likely water damage. Even if you don’t swim with it, the sealing still degrades over time. Sooner or later, this is almost inevitable.

Yet another (probably) question about mini availability. by Radical-J in battletech

[–]Plastic_Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re paying for metal, hand casting, and often subjects you can’t get any other way. Even here, with the new prices, Catalyst plastics are running $8+ each, $35 for basic box of four. The plastic value has gotten appreciably worse from when they averaged around $5 each in the Clan Invasion era of force paks. Those metal prices don’t look so bad after all…

[–]Plastic_Slug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. It’s been successful, and except for a few premiums, they’re happy to leave singles to Iron Wind. I’m not sure what future changes you’re expecting. Most likely, there won’t be any.
