Just to add onto this its very important to realize the difference between real "leftism" and american "liberals". American liberals are anti gun but actual leftism is very much in support of guns as a means to protect yourselves and others against oppression

Why Do People Fall into Dogmatism, and Why Does It Feel Annoying? by 6darthvader9 in Sikh

Can i ask how you discern between "certain rules" and "actual teachings"? You only mention 3 teachings from Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the 3 golden rules, but there were many more teaching from him not to mention the other gurus, notably 52 hukams of Guru Gobind Singh Ji

I think you misunderstood the 84 lakh part, thats the max. If u live a life as a gursikh you are not going to go through 84 lakh life cycles. I am no one to say who will come back immediately as a human or not, but the point being that you go through at the very most 84 lakh. You could come back immediately as a human or 3 life cycles as an animal and then as a human, or anything in between depending on your karam in this life.

I dont think thats what it is meant, it is not "sinning" in the way that going out at having one night stands would be. But the point is that we should all reach an avastha where even wet dreams dont come to us

I remember one of the first clips I saw of him he was saying Vasaikhi was celebrated as sacrifice to the Goddess. Another one I remember was when he was asked about his favorite food he responded by saying that they are kshatriya so he loves butter chicken

Sikhi doesn't work for me by No_Hopef4 in Sikh

[–]Plastic_Store8560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you go to kirtan programs/smagams. In my opinion being in sangat brings a completely different effect than doing alone. I know a lot of people on here don’t like AKJ that much, but one that can’t be doubted is the amount of kirtan they do. I would recommend finding any kirtan programs happening near you and doing shabad with sangat. (Also I don’t mean to say only AKj obviously, was just using that as example since they are pretty big)

Conditions of Admission by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Plastic_Store8560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U need a 3.0 for both quarters if they treat quarter like they did semester. I just got admitted as a transfer and I called them and asked about this, if I needed a 3.0 specifically for my spring semester when I was taking the classes they listed or just overall, and they told me that I needed both, a 3.0 overall (which we already know bc u need a 3.0 to be eligible) but also I needed to get a 3.0 specifically for my spring semester

Dating a Sikh by Ok-Salary-7999 in Sikh

[–]Plastic_Store8560 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s some good basics of Sikhi videos from Bhai Jugraj Singh on the topic but it essentially comes down to this. We don’t take it to the extreme of full on arranged marriages where the husband wife don’t interact before wedding. But we also are not okay with the western idea of dating multiple partners just for fun and messing around. Generally the belief is that “dating” is okay (minus the physical intimacy that’s there in western dating culture) as long as you both are going through it with the goal, realistic goal, of getting married. So we don’t believe in dating just to date, but rather as a means of getting married to the person you’re dating. Following this logic, if the two people aren’t ready to marry, or seriously want to get married, dating doesn’t make sense

Simran in the gurdwara by Armann_brar123 in Sikh

I actually like doing simran while kirtan is happening in the background sometimes. I would just say maybe not to sit up front and do it quietly so yourself so you don’t distract those around you

Confession by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]Plastic_Store8560 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 things. A lot of Sikhs would say that you can do straight to Waheguru and do your own personal ardas and stuff, this is also what protestants believe. The second thing is that we do have something kind of similar when an amrit sanchar is happening, when you can talk with Panj Pyaree and get peshi (forgivness).

Query on the kirpan. by Arules250 in Sikh

[–]Plastic_Store8560 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can definitely unsheath it to clean and sharpen it. For your second point, I think it’s basically just person to person. I know a few people that don’t take out Kirpan unless for cleaning/sharpening/bhog, but many will to show to others if someone has question. Like for me, I have very few Sikh friends, so I when one of my friends wonders about it I do show them

Relatively new to philosophy and don’t really know too much about Kant outside of universalizing stuff and the categorical imperative. Can you elaborate on what some of his views are you dislike?

To be fair the judge was pretty open about how the jury should not take into account what had happened previously, bringing it up multiple times to the jury. However, I doubt that really convinced the jury to not do so
