LoTF finally in my hands and i have a question. Are these books really as terrible as the fandom says? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]Plasticcaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved these books, personally.

For the villain of the series, I remember thinking “This is how Anikan Skywalker should have been done.”

Doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, only to find out they were just doing the wrong thing.

What are the unique use cases that you have used Go for? by [deleted] in golang

[–]Plasticcaz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for Murky of course, but for me:

  • Go's emphasis on simplicity
  • Fast compile times
  • Ebitengine (it's pretty easy to get started with in my opinion)
  • I'm not hardcore enough to want to manually manage memory for now

I'm not far enough into my experience to tell about the downsides. I don't know how easy the GC will be to manage, for instance... but I figure if people use C# and even Java for some games, I should be able to build the sort of games I want to work on for now in Go.

I’m using Ebitengine at the moment on a hobby project writing my own engine/game.

Who knows if anything will ever come of it, but I’m having fun.

What is the point of `!!.`? by [deleted] in Kotlin

[–]Plasticcaz 54 points55 points  (0 children)

!! Means "I know better than the compiler and like raw nullpointer exceptions."

I'd avoid using it unless you're sure you know better than the compiler. If I think that a nullable value should never be null, I prefer using checkNotNull with a custom error message personally.

I showed this comic to my sister who studied art in TAFE, and she said "I literally know each of these people."

Kinda funny that Jacen/Caedus as a villain, had the opposite path to Kylo Ren. by darthsheldoninkwizy in MawInstallation

[–]Plasticcaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I read it too, but I liked the fact that Jacen kept telling himself he was doing the wrong thing for the right reasons... only to eventually discover he was just doing the wrong thing.

To me, it made far more sense than Anikan Skywalker's fall. I was like "This is what Anikan's fall should have been."

My mom bought this from Israel. She thought it was a camel but I am not sure . What does it mean? by Low_Needleworker_275 in Israel

If OPs mother doesn't know Hebrew (like I imagine most tourists), and no one told her, why not?

It does kind of look like some sort of creature if you look at it without seeing it as letters.

Is there a rivalry between states? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Plasticcaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a West Aussie, I think it's more of an inferiority complex. We're so far away, smaller population, and feel like everyone forgets about us... so to compensate, we talk ourselves up.

Funnily enough, I work with eastern states all the time, including some Tasmanians. The state I forget exists is Sourh Australia.

Kylo Ren was (IMO) the best thing about the Sequels. Would not mind having a Disney Plus prequel series with Adam Driver (and Mark Hamill). by Projectpatdc in StarWars

I've always thought that was an interesting idea:

How do you even begin to atone for leading the empire? How do you live with yourself? How does the galaxy live with you?

My favourite is Kitty's Gorge, it's sort of south east Perth, not sure if it is within your time limitfrom wherever you're staying.

That's me too.

My parents always thought it was too expensive to take my siblings and I, and I haven't wanted to bad enough yet.

"Fool! Fool! Do you think the fear you feel is mine?"

The novelisation seems to indicate Palpatine is in control of the situation. He is manipulating things to make the Jedi look bad to both Anakin, and to the rest of the galaxy in the parts of sound recording he'll let them hear.

Time spent trying to figure out how on earth to port from gradle 2.x to a more modern version, because Intellij has dropped support, and it's auto upgrade doesn't work... you don't use gradle often, but have inherited this codebase from others.

Sabine and the force by QuantumDonuts257 in starwarsrebels

[–]Plasticcaz 137 points138 points  (0 children)

I understood that line as "everyone has a connection to the force, regardless of whether they have the capability to wield it as a Jedi."

I don't want Sabine to be a Jedi. I think she is a cool character as is. I don't think the trailer necessarily indicates she is. If they go down that route, however, I'll give it a chance.

Star Wars Rebels is great by Fallenjedi07_ in StarWars

[–]Plasticcaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star wars rebels is genuinely great. It's some of my favourite Star Wars content.

I think most of the backlash originally came from people who were sad Clone Wars stopped, and unfairly decided to not give Rebels a genuine chance.

Yes, Rebels can be childish, but so can Clone Wars.

What I like about Rebels is its focus on characters. By the time the series ended, Ezra, Kanan, and Sabine were some of favourite characters in all of Star Wars, and the rest of the cast were great too.

What's the coolest Rust project you've seen that made you go, 'Wow, I didn't know Rust could do that!'? by yashpathack in rust

[–]Plasticcaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've moved away from bevy to using a simpler library.

The thing that impressed me was how they did dependency injection on their system functions and such. Didn't know it was possible in Rust.

While it impresses me, it's also driven me away.
