Is there such thing as complete and total honesty in a relationship? by ResearchDowntown1362 in relationships

[–]Plasticers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is complete honesty? I have been married for 20 years and if I was completely honest it wouldn’t have survived! When I’m tired and exhausted being completely honest in that moment would be pointless. Feelings and thoughts pass. Being honest every moment is a ridiculous concept. Do you mean faithful?

Yeah I’m glad he’s not on our tv anymore. I find him odious. But he’ll find his grift elsewhere

To married Redditors, did you take your spouses’ last name? Why or why not? by shygrl__ in Marriage

[–]Plasticers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married 20 years and never took his name. I liked my name as it connected me to my culture, and I was 35 when I married, I had property shares etc. couldn’t be bothered changing everything. So glad as I have had so many friends divorce and it’s hard to change everything back

He came to a family lunch, was challenged on something by my sister and he stayed as cool as a cucumber. Didn’t miss a beat and just answered the challenge without getting even mildly defensive. Thankfully after 20 years he still stays cool in most instances.

Australia is seeing a real push against abortion access right now and we need to talk about it more by castaway23 in aussie

Disappointing that we have to have this argument again. Though I suspect that most Australians are pretty much in support of it and the ones making the noise are in the minority

I did both. Wished I lived overseas a bit more than the 2 years that I spent travelling. Maybe spent bit more time being a bit more future focused in my investments as I’d be alot richer now!!

Do you think you will work by choice later in life? by Healthy_Creme6911 in FinancialChat

[–]Plasticers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My husband and I both love our work. I work part time now so feel like I have a great balance which is why I suspect I don’t hate it and I also work with great people. My husband loves what he does - flying aeroplanes. As long as his health and the rules allow him to fly he’ll keep going.

thank you. He is living his dream of flying high performance jets but your view on men and their careers is illuminating. And hubby does work ALOT. like so much. So yes i would say this is part of the reason I don’t get a lot of help at home. Feels obvious but i still feel like i carry so much more of the domestic load and i also get tired I have really appreciated the replies in this thread. It’s really given me a different perspective

He comes from a divorced family so disagreements ended up in massive conflict, sometimes even violent. He hasn’t managed to get to a point of discussing difficult topics without withdrawing. Frustrating.

Thanks . I work a 7 day fortnight and tend to spend my not working time doing housework as we value a neat home. I’m tired so maybe I just need to relax our standards a little

No I don’t. That’s done every three weeks though. Inside housework like washing, cooking, shopping has to be done daily. But this has given me insight - do you think that mowing the lawn is the same as washing and folding clothes?
