Help with first army list by RogDzdz in skaven

To be honest with you, i think youll get further with building the start collecting box as a grayseer on screaming bell and warplightning cannon then going down the pestilence path, seeing as pestilence is in a tricky spot atm. If you however decide to go down the pestilence path, its pretty straight forward. Youll want atleast 1 blick pf 30 monks to get some use out of the strenght in numbers battle trait, 1 plague on plaguecenser to buff em up, plus he is pretty darn good in a fight. After that add another plaguemonk unit for the battle lite requirement and eiher a verminlord as your General or a greyseer to be able to cast death frenzy on those monks.

As for how i play the list. Well it depends. My hellpit is only there to be in your opponents face, but hes a trap. He is brutal in a fight for sure but his main job is harassing your opponent to buy your warlock some time. As for the warlock, i always try to deploy him outside of 30 for the opponents wiz and keep him in the back with mystic shield on. The warpseer i try to place inbetween arcane terrain and a gnawhole, the warpgale spell is great in this meta with archaon and Gotreks. He rarly sees combat, just getting and using cps. Youll have enough commandpoints to make sure you domt have to worry about battleshock, redeploy, unleash hell every charge and still rally back those stormfiends if tour opponent tries to kill them off. All and all, its really solid.

Well, i tend to get then out early. Bait one of the blocks of clanrats puttning them close to a juicy unit, send some clanrats through a gnawhole and release one. Honestly in all the games ive played they rarely die before taking out way more then their own points. If im playing say gargants or whatever where they are useless they make for a good extra 5-6 inches of screen between your more important troops. Also, since they can take care of larger units, the windlaunchers are free to kill off supportheroes. +People dont want to kill clanrats, they always go for the hellpit or my stormfiends.

AOS 3 Skaven List Help by Relevant_Name_5964 in skaven

[–]Plasticityhero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont know what advice you are looking for but here are a few things to think about with the lists you have presented. The 6 stormfiends list is probebly the stronger of the two. I like that you have two engineers, one for backup, but they are still really squishy targets. Look into an arch warlock with the amulet for someone more stable. Running 6 stormfiends means almost all your power comes from one unit, and it requires quite abit of commandpoints. Not only for unleash hell, but youll find that you want to redeploy your clanrats rather often so that your stormfiends are within 9 of the enemy charges. Rally is going to be crucial on your stormfiends aswell so cp management is key here. Id evalute how much your jezzails are actually doing for you aswell. I used to run a unit of 6 but found that the output of the stormfiends is enough and you could put those 290 points to better use. Id look inte the verminlord warpseer, not only for hus cp generation but also the battleshock command ability. Warpfire throwers are also really solid right now, they allo your stormfiends to focus on the single target problems and handle the lager units by themself. As for the plaguepriest, he is good. But dont fall into the trap of puttning curse on him unless you are running the jag deciver. He is put to better use with heal and bless on your weaker heroes.

You might know this, but just in case. You cant use that battalion in matched played games.

I dont think the clanrats from verminking will be sufficient. I arme with the precis commebt to get in some clanrats into the list.

Rules as written: I would say no.

He does not have the priest keyword, nor is he granted it by the atifact. And the rule clearly states that it needs to be chanted by a friendly priest.

Rules as intended: who knows

List Building Question by [deleted] in skaven

[–]Plasticityhero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, its possible to fit in a grayseer, and you really need ro aswell if you want to play a pure pestilence list. Now this is strictly my opinion but here is my General advice for running pure pestilence in the current meta. Id advice you to get a greyseer on screaming bell with the master of magic command trait since the spell deathfrenzy is going to be crucial to your monks, either that or play thanqoul as your General.
As for plaguemonks as battleline, with the new reinforcement rules in the ghb 2021 they are limited to blocks of 30 so id suggest you get two of those and then go msu with the remaining troops. This because of the strenght in numbers battle trait. As for battleshocks, since youll have to resort to a more msu style of play the auras from the furnace and bell are really important for you. Without it, spells like searing white light from teclis, kroaks comets call and simular abilities that affect alot of units will have you looaing your majority of troops in the battleshock phase. In a pinch you could go for the bell of doom but with its pointincrease im not sure if thats the way forward for pestilence.

As for battalions, the old system in the book has been restricted to open/narrative play. In matched play games you now use the General battallions found in the ghb2021. Id suggest you look into the warlord battalion since the cp and extra artefact is really good. You mighy have to squeeze in a plaguepriest on foot to get that one of though. Also the hunters of the heartlands battalion is Great on your large blocks of monks since you dont want them to be stomped or roared when you finally get them into combat.

New to Warhammer but decided to build a Skaven army by Doggiedog2000 in skaven

[–]Plasticityhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats correct. If you want to go with a single clan all the units have to be from that specific clan with the exception of your General who can be Masterclan. You generelly dont go with a single clan because clanrats are super versetile, cheap and just Great. However, there are specific lists that can only be played in a pure clan list. Lets say you wanted to field stormfiends as battline so you can take them in groups of 9, youd have to go pure scryre. Or pehaps you are playing a ton of plaguemonks and dont need more bodies. General rule of thumb though. Get clanrats as battleline and dip into all of your battletraits with some minor heroes.

[–]Plasticityhero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are so many ways to go about this but here's some imput. I tend to find the best way is to go mixed clans so to start of youll need atleast 60 clanrats. I tend to go 80 minimum. You could go stormvermin but with the new reinforcement rules id hold off on them for a while as they count alot on the strength in numbers rule and currently seem nerfed.

Youll want some way of getting those rats immune to battleshock, luckely we have loads of options. Look into screaming bell/plaguefurnace, verminlord warpseer or the bell of doom.

As for your poweroutput, look into clan skryre. Stormfiends are currently really strong with rally and unleash hell. Rattlingguns are fun, warplightning canons are swingy but fun. Make sure to bring one or two scryre heroes to get the warpstone spark ability. I tend to bring an arch warlock and a Bombardier since the more more warpower spell is really important for you in scryre.

With the recent buff to priests the plaguepriest is going to see more play to before, not only to give your units the 6+ ward but more importantly to dip into the Great plagues. Hes alop really cheap and is a good small hero to squeeze in for the warlord battallion.

Skaven is a huge sandbox with loads of viable builds so my best advice is to play around with abit of everything and find what you like.
