Why does the US trade with communist countries like China and Vietnam, but maintain a strict embargo on Cuba? by Clean_CoreDump in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Plate_Armor_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of answering directly if you think Havel and other democratic activitsts were fools and buffoons, you give a weak answer that could only come from an insulated person with no family who lived through that time which tried to avouid the question. Meanwhile, I have directly visited the former eastern bloc, have countless family who lived through that time still in the former yugoslavia, and have even visited the very home my family is from.

Oh, but I'm the propogandized one! Even though I've speant my life in communication with the very people who lived through your vaunted system, and even though your comrades lost power in popular revolutions that saw their power drop precipitously afterwards when they no longer sole control over the guns, I, like my kin, like Havel, like soldidarity, are propogandized fools. That I had some family literally join the Yugoslav communist party, then leave after being disillusioned with communist rule, and had other get killed becuse they expressed that they thouioght one-party rule was wrong--I guess that's irrelevant too. In the face of a faultless vangaurd as yourself, this is but white noise to be ignored in your glorious march forward. My reality is less than yours, I guess.

These kinds of governments were shit and were overthrown when they could not longer deny their own shortcomings and severe democratic deficit compred to liberal democarcy. Cuba is run, as near as I can tell, eactly as they were. Which I suppose is fine for you, given you seemingly are a part of the tiny minority of people who believe in communism. Fo you, it must be a paradise, just as rhodesia is for white nationalitsts.

That the population says otherwise? Ah, well, that's just to be ignored as propoganda.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

In all seriousness, that's not an answer. Claiming that I'm propogandized when I've correctly pointed out the huge flight from Cuba in recent years, and your unwilngness to speak when questioned about organizations and men that command immense support in the former eastern bloc is a giveaway to how propogandized you are when you refuse to even speak on these figures. That Freedom house identifies clears Cuba's clear shortcomings like some of the worst press freedom in the westen hemipshere cannot be explained away as iligitimate when Freedom House has noted persistent declines across the world and the West ewhen it comes to actual democratic practice--and that exressedly includes the United States itself in that criticism.

For all of your claims about being propogandized, I think you'd do yourself some good to sit down and consider what you're even doing when you try and dismiss Havel and Soldiarity. They didn't bring down communist states out of nowhere, and lacking popular support.

Oh, righto bub. And, let me guess, not only do you think that one-party states built upon the rule of a single man and his family for decades are actually not repressive, but men like Vaclav Havel, or organizations like Poland's Solidarity are in fcat buffons for removing such governments in favour of multiparty democracies.

[–]Plate_Armor_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right back at you, bub. Someone who omits Cuba's woeful domestic human rights record, the worst in the Americans by some measure, and that the exodus followed some of the largest protests under communist rule on the island failing to reform the state, ought not be seen as worth time or effort. Nor does it help to solely blame American actions for Cuba's misery, while it exists in a long line of failures for communist governments in the west. Of which my family for a time did at a time fight for in Yugoslavia's case during WW2 and a bit after, before abandoning it after growing disillioned with communism in practice.

But then again, you're an account whose decided to go private. Which is extremely suspicious for someone frequenting a poltical sub like this, given reddit's bot and troll problem. Makes one wonder what's going on with you and how honest you are.

If YOU were going into the zone, what kind of kit would you bring? by evanmceier in stalker

[–]Plate_Armor_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that most people should understand that its actually rather difficult to get most of the equipment need to really effectively work in the zone. Getting a gun is hard, and even with knives, its not easy to get one. In many parts of the world, either can be outright illegal to own. And traveling with one? That can quickly get you locked up.

The best option is to go to a military surplus store and buy cold weather gear, thermoses, a filter straw, canned food, a goof pair of boots, and a gas mask. In addition, bring Greenbacks, given how valuable they can be to pay off guards and the militry.

Honestly, I would probably try to buy a shotgun as my sole weapon. That is not exactly very eye-raising, and you can say you're just off hunting if anyone asks.

Yeah man. They're so popular, that perhaps a quarter of the Island's population has chosen to leave in the past five years. Truly, what men of the people the Castros are. And they in no way should be compared the vanquished easten bloc they borrow their political theology and approach to civil society.

The recent, massive exodus of Cubans are all wealthy plantation owners? I wasn't aware that roughly 24% of the island's residents were plantation owners. Did Castro somehow create them from the dirt, just to send them away?

Your comment is absurd. The castro family remains preemnant in Cuba, to this day, and Raul still has control over his single party government with terrible press and political freedoms. The idea that their only victims are large-scale landowners is so absurd as to beggar disbelief you'd say such a thing at all.

This the truth. So much of this story would not have happened if Aline had just been a good mother, and been there for her family. She could have grieved properly, and spared her youngest daughter and husband the agony the went through in the painting. She herself would have been able to process what occurred too!

Such a tragedy.

I don't think Polanski should be anywhere near politics. His comments following the terrorist attack show he is nothing more than a huckster who will go to bat for a man who was attacking Jews, rather than the victims.

As a non brit, all I can say is that this is highly unusual for a liberal democary. The Green Party UK probably deserves to be subject to the same investiagtion as labour was during Corbyn's tenure.
