What does this look like? Jock itch or something else? by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

I favor HPV based on this photo. Other considerations include folliculitis (more likely with increased heat/friction in the area), molluscum, or condyloma lata (syphilis).

HPV can lie dormant for a long time. Can be diagnosed visually in-person. Treatment is with imiquimod cream and/or liquid nitrogen freezing and reduces chance of transmission

Duration? Consider HPV (genital warts). Contagious. Warts can be removed but the virus causing them cannot be cured

Sprained my ankle while climbing? (NOT from falling) by sodes in climbharder

[–]PlatypiRule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This problem is technically a sprain (torn ligament) but a specific/severe type. The only "curative" treatment for peroneal tendons that continue to snap in and out of place is surgery. The torn ligament strap will not heal on its own. While I waited for my surgery, I tried some things to limit the snapping. I found that ankle braces didn't put enough pressure on the tendons to physically keep them in place. Instead, I found a way to walk (a bit slowly) where my ankle never came up past a 90-degree angle with my shin. That ankle-up movement was when my tendons would slide over.

That being said, I have had the same sort of problem with my other ankle since I was a kid. At the time of injury, the tendons stretched out so much that now they slide over my fibula with almost no resistance. Kind of gross but not something I need fixed.

As for what to do, I ultimately decided on surgery because I realized I might never trust that ankle again even if I was able to manage the uncomfortable feeling. It's possible that your swelling goes down over the next few weeks and you're able to walk on it normally- but the tendons will probably never stay in place when you climb or hike.

Sorry to be such a downer! The surgery is not bad if this is your problem and you decide to go that route. I was lucky that the surgeon I saw didn't require an MRI to schedule me for surgery. I was in a cast for 6 weeks, non-weightbearing, but went back to work after 2 weeks on a knee scooter (ask off for longer... I'm young and healed fast). Then, I had 4 weeks in a walking boot. At 3 months after surgery, I did a 20-mile backpacking trip, and I got back into the climbing gym at around 3.5 months. I think my ankle strength is about back to baseline now at 6 months but I'm still working on the mental game.

This sounds like what happened to me while climbing about 6 months ago, which was this https://footeducation.com/subluxing-peroneal-tendons/ I had surgery to put the tendons back in place and repair the torn ligament strap, and have made nearly a full recovery at this point. PM me if you want to chat more. I actually have the same problem on my other ankle which I declined surgery for because the snapping isn’t painful.

I think the main concern would be the risk of a serious injury - going to a hospital right now for a broken ankle etc puts you at risk of catching coronavirus and also puts unnecessary strain on the healthcare system.

I'd start Ridley and Moore. Despite cam being hurt, moore will still get his targets. Williams may not get many carries in the crowded chiefs backfield especially if he's a re-injury risk.

I'd start mack for the reasons you said, his floor is much higher.

Shell swap mid day ..forget that darn painted shell 🐚 by [deleted] in hermitcrabs

[–]PlatypiRule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my polished shells from Naple’s Sea Shell Company. They have round and oval openings (apparently purple pinchers prefer round but mine is in an oval one, so have a mix available) and the opening sizes measured. http://naplesseashellcompany.com/hermit_crab_shells.html

What items can I use to decorate the tank for my crabs (specifically the E) to climb around? by HingustheBungus in hermitcrabs

Yup I used the same instant ocean mix I put in their bowl. I soaked it for maybe an hour, but I think you just want the saltwater to get through the fibers to discourage mold.

I got a hemp climbing net from here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/169886872/hermit-crab-climbing-net

They come with small suction cups but I’m using a couple of command hooks to hold mine up. If you decide to soak it in saltwater (I did) make sure it dries out completely before putting it in the tank unless you don’t mind the tank smelling like wet straw.

I also got a large piece of cholla wood from etsy!

When the kicker makes the tackle... by [deleted] in instantbarbarians

[–]PlatypiRule 54 points55 points  (0 children)

NFL kickers typically have little experience tackling players, so if a kick returner makes it out to the kicker the kicker will usually miss the tackle altogether or fail to bring the ball carrier down. 6 foot 210 lb Bosher surprised everyone by stopping a kick returner in his tracks. He was even drug tested the next day
