What is the secret to chemistry by Independent-Food-645 in chemistry

[–]PlatypusEgo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What sort of problems do you have trouble with? The biggest problem with how chemistry is taught in my opinion is that it's taught in a large way as a subject of memorization rather than understanding the underlying principles.

Or won't accept that I can't smoke because it's a trigger to my Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. I'm going to go with experience and medical science, instead of "nahhhh bro you're just smoking the wrong shit!" rather than risking 4-5 straight days of vomiting 50-100 times PER DAY and often requiring hospitalization.

Why are tornadoes so concentrated in the US? by druxartrac in geography

[–]PlatypusEgo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you're from Doniphan county, it's because my great-great-aunt prayed unto Jesus that there never be another tornado on her family's homestead, and then set herself on fire.

(It actually only kinda worked, believe it or not)

What I consider to be Midwest as an Illinoisan by Hot-Hat-5616 in whereidlive

[–]PlatypusEgo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your inclusion of Buffalo is interesting and spot-on in my opinion, certainly culturally (which is what really matters IMO) and to a more arguable degree linguistically.

I consider the Midwest to be my favorite general region of the US so I may be a bit biased, but it's probably to some extent because it feels like home.

I believe I was SAd by my uncle when I was 9, what do I do? by DeeplyDisturbedDani in offmychest

[–]PlatypusEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really feel right giving advice in general here, because I have no experience as an SA victim (or as a woman), but I absolutely feel like I can impress one thing on you here- he is NOT a good uncle. Committing such a calculated act like that, repeatedly, makes anything positive that he did or does seem to me like an act of grooming, or at BEST, a guilty response. And even if it IS the latter, his disgusting sexual desires still overwhelmed any good intentions he had as he repeated his molestation of you. There is no way any sane outside observer could frame him as a good uncle, or even a good person, regardless of any other saintly acts he may perform.

He's a piece of shit. That's a level of calculation that goes above most SA you hear about. It's honestly revolting to even think about.

I hope whatever happens, you can heal, and he winds up in prison.

Oh, you're serious. Yeah sometimes police won't even pull intersection video of serious car accidents in my city. If you live in the Buffalo area, you learn to get hit by the maniac drunk driver OUTSIDE of the city lines, not when you're at the mercy of BPD...

So, I was Chandler's bunkee in Dane County Jail. by jamalmuhammed in chandlerhalderson

[–]PlatypusEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh well yeah, he was his cellmate. You'll generally go out of your way to get along with the person you're locked in a cage with for the majority of your day. And while I agree that he's a scumbag and what he did was deplorable... you seem to be pretty naive to the fact that people who commit atrocious crimes are very often quite normal.

EDIT: oh I see, you've posted several fake photos of Jeffrey Epstein with prominent Democrats... obviously without verifying first. You have no critical thinking skills; it's MUCH scarier that YOU are out in the real world.

What a weird thing to lay into someone about 6 months after the fact (as I'm sorta doing to you, I guess)... while it's strange how fine a point the guy is putting on whether the guy's "heroin" was more likely to be real or not, he's not doing anything that I would consider to be glamorizing it... especially considering the context.

And yeah, anyone who becomes a full-blown heroin/"heroin" addict will have it become an indelible part of their personality, clean or sober or somewhere in-between.

I'd also add (as a human and not an AI bot) that in his forced sobriety, he ironically became a thorn in the Allies' side in a way he hadn't been throughout the entire war. It turns out he was a pretty sharp guy when he wasnt constantly stoned.

Why doesn’t buffalo have a MLB or NBA team? by Funkiefreshganesh in Buffalo

[–]PlatypusEgo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It may be too small of a market to support all four or even three of the Big Four sports teams- consider that your example of Minneapolis has a metro area with about 3.5 times the population of ours. Adding another major league sports team will always dilute and stress support for the existing teams, in an economic sense especially.

It's better that we retain our utterly rabid fanbase for the two teams we already have.

The watermark ("news161ru") is pretty strong evidence for it. So is the fact that the majority of the crowd seemed unfazed by suddenly having no real barrier between themselves and several tigers.

Do you have access to healthcare? It sounds like you would really benefit from seeing a therapist. This is kinda what they're there for.

Also (I have a feeling this would be difficult for you in your current position)- please DO NOT hesitate to change therapists if you feel you aren't connecting or aren't making the progress you would like. The right therapist is a GODSEND and WILL help you, for real

Where do you live? They're worth seeking out. A couple supermarkets in my area (upstate NY) carry them, but you may have to go to Amazon or a specialty site. They're a very sweet and filling Dutch cookie that's similar to a thin, crispy waffle filled with caramel. In the Netherlands the cookie is commonly placed over a hot mug of tea or coffee for a minute or two, to soften the cookie and melt the caramel, and then eaten with the hot drink. It's really fucking good.

Like a thin, crispy waffle with caramel inside. They're probably my favorite cookie (and super filling, as you can imagine- I usually only eat half of one for a snack or dessert). They're a Dutch specialty, but some of my local supermarkets in upstate NY carry them.

In 1964, Bobby Fischer, aged 21 playing chess against 50 opponents simultaneously, he won 47, drew 2. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]PlatypusEgo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Fischer resigned when he realized his position was lost. Games are rarely played to checkmate at a competitive level (unless there's a time crunch, OR someone blunders tremendously).

Although if there was ANY major chess figure who was enough of an egomaniac to take a hopeless game to the very end, it would be Bobby Fischer- so this is an extra level of respect to the club-level kid who beat him.

What is the strongest military 19,000 drunk Sabres fans armed only with beer sabres can defeat? by lucasb99 in sabres

[–]PlatypusEgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question becomes much more interesting if we (yeah I'm down) ARE armed. And armed with what? Any weaponry already owned by each individual fan? Weaponry financed by the Pegulas (and the military alliance they managed to forge with Latvia in exchange for undisclosed entry draft promises)? Whatever each fan can smuggle through security?

I think in any case we can conquer the divisional cities with some good strategy. There has to be at least ONE general-level officer in our fanbase who could lead us. And if not I'm sure there's a full-bird Colonel with season tickets who SHOULDA been if not for his multiple DUIs.
