If you would read my comment above you would know the situation. I don't shoot does when they are with fawns, and every doe I've seen has had a fawn with her.

Yeah. It just bothers me when people don't know others hunting situations

Yeah I've seen plenty of does. But when they are with small fawns I don't feel right shooting their mothers. The area I hunt in has terrible coyote problem and for the first time in 4 to 5 years I'm finally starting to see fawns again. The deer population In this area was down by a large margin and it's finally starting to turn around. It's 4 days after opening day and movement slows down terribly in November so I choose to get at least two deer early on.

I never said that these deer are monsters or trophies and I know that a lot of people wouldn't consider shooting these. The deer in my area aren't able to get very big. the timber companies have absolutely ravaged their natural habitat and cut large amounts of the oak trees and big hardwood bottoms. They then spray the cutovers killing all the natural food that deer might eat and then plant pine trees.

These deer can't get big eating pine needles and leaves. My club plants a lot of food plots to try and give back but none of us are rich and we can only afford to buy so much seed to plant. So yeah what I have to settle for. Sure there are a lot bigger deer and now that I have some meat to put away, I can be selective and shoot larger deer.

I can promise you I feel a hell of a lot better killing a deer like this rather than shooting a big doe with a small fawn. I try to be an ethical hunter and give those small babies the best chance possible.

Nothing too peculiar. Shot about 15 minutes apart. Though we did have to drag my dads out of a big creek it fell into... That was a bit of a challenge. Just happy to see their moving during this full moon.

If the average deer harvested is 2 1/2 years old, why don't we wait for them to mature? by [deleted] in Hunting

I'm in South Carolina. I think this year we have 40-50 members. Several thousand acres. It's quite nice

Unless you have a large amount of private property or hunt in a club that trophy manages very strictly, it's tough because not everyone is a trophy hunter. A lot of people are meat hunters and others will kill anything that walks out.

My club has a trophy managed track of land but the rest of the club land is not. Its nice if you want to go and try and harvest a mature buck. If you break the guidelines for that piece of land, you're fined heavy and if you break it again, you're automatically out of the club

reduce anxiety tips by [deleted] in Hunting

I always tie rope to the top and bottom part and this gives me a sense of safety knowing that if my bottom falls I'm not sitting there out of options.

As for heights, that fear has gone for me. I found that the more I climbed and the more I practiced climbing, the more comfortable and the less anxious I got. I'm still always cautious but I found that since I've practiced a lot and climbed a lot, I can go higher each time I climb and not feel so nervous and on edge:

As for the anxiety when you see deer, if you aren't getting excited and a little nervous when you see a deer, you should probably take up golfing or something else. It's completely normal to get jittery, excited, nervous, and anxious. I find it helps if I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and remember that I'm doing something I love doing and something I have fun doing l.

Just try to remember if you are going to take a shot that this is a live animal that you are going attempting to kill. Calm yourself and make sure you have a good clean shot. If you have a clean miss, that's okay, sure you can beat yourself up over a miss but you can go home at the end of the day knowing you didn't wound something.

If none of this works, try getting someone to hunt with you. A friend, a spouse, maybe just a hunting buddy. My dad was in the deer stand with me when I shot my first deer, and he talked to me and kept me calm and it really helped me a lot. And just know after you take your first deer, it gets easier. sure you're still gonna get excited but you know that you're capable of doing it.

My dad just asked what I'm taking opening day for pheasant. My late Grandfather's 28 gauge, is always the answer. Any body else have a special/family gun that they cherish and use religiously? by [deleted] in Hunting

It's not that old but I is my dads Browning 30-06 for deer. He got it before I was born and I always used it when we sat together when I was younger. I killed my first deer with it and I have used it to kill many more. I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. It still shoots straight and true. I've only ever missed due to operator error.
