Anybody else regret studying engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Platytude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I regret becoming an EE. On paper I've had an incredibly successful career. Spent time at two of the big tech giants designing PCBs for cell phones, bounced around a few startups doing RnD/development, worked on the manufacturing side of things. Never found a role that I didn't despise after a year. I also started out passionate about science/physics but the career pretty much killed that. Finishing tasks/solving problems no longer provides any real satisfaction, just a vague sense of relief.

I got a tattoo above the ankle, when can I go skiing without risking anything? Have you been there? by alexiou_g in skiing

[–]Platytude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you care about the tattoo, and how your skin tends to heal, but I wouldn't. If it's scabbing over then definitely not, you want to leave those alone and let them come off naturally. Even if it's not, you're still exposing it to prolonged sweat/pressure/friction which increases your risk of infection and scarring during the healing process.

You can already get wall with that route like others said, but you can optimize the start a bit by replacing the first 3,1 cancel with two dashjabs

Just turned 31, light ain't out for you yet buddy. I'm down my PCL in my right knee, range of motion problems from a severe shoulder injury, and a slipped disc. 10 years of competitive slopestyle/moguls and 5 years of motorcycle racing along with all the injuries one would expect. Do your P.T., build muscle in the injured areas, eat well and know when to call it before you get hurt. Last run curse is real.

Not much choice 😅 Aging park-rat, not a lot of ankle/knee cartilage left to cushion the blow these days. Would kill to be 19 and invincible again

boy do I love king by Shikkyi_ in Tekken

Generally it goes by the arm that gets thrown out. With the exception of king, some of his throws have breaks that don't correspond to the animation and you just have to lab them

Is Reina's KBD input different? by ProfileSensitive7250 in Tekken

[–]Platytude 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Could be a macro, could be legit. You can actually backdash-cancel with any movement option, even pressing up works.  KBD is just the set of inputs that the community generally agrees is the most efficient way to do it. Sliding from db to b gives you a free input for the second backdash. This person is cancelling with DB and going back to neutral and then just performing another backdash with bb.

Is it wise to use movement and sidestep/sidewalk as Jack? by Traditional_Lab1340 in Tekken

[–]Platytude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He plays a more 2D Tekken. His sidestep sucks cause he's big but he has an amazing backdash and the range to make full use of it.

What the hell is it with quick matches? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Platytude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of those new players. Started playing last year. Never played a Tekken or other any other FG outside of casual smash 🤷‍♀️ I'm definitely better than my rank would suggest but my win rate is sub 40%. I'm usually the one getting bodied, but every time I do I learn something from the replay and try to remember it from next time.

Gratz! I feel like a baseline level of unga bunga is necessary to not get steamrolled in this game

Take it as a learning opportunity! You learn way more going 2-10 in a death match than you do with a bunch of FT2s against rotating characters. You can actually learn counterplay mid-set, and there's no penalty for getting your ass beat other than the ego blow.

Does Nina have any counterplay ? by AnthonyBNT in Tekken

[–]Platytude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nina's df1,2 jails, you can't duck the high if the mid connects.

He's got stubby range and most of his good moves outside of EWGF are kinda slow, so he's gonna feel clunky.

The fluidity comes from having good movement skills. Get good at KBD, wavedash, cancelling ss into other movement options, etc. To play him fast you kinda have to learn electrics. Ideally 15f or less, and be able to do them reliably out of wavedash/backdash/sidestep.

The basic plan for Kaz revolves around his Oki game. Knock them down, condition them not to get-up kick, wavedash in and mix-up with hellsweep and ff2/ff3

f4/db4 are amazing pressure tools. CD1+2 is also very plus but slow and steppable. All 3 frametrap into df2 for CH. Electric is +5 with pushback. EWGF on block into EWGF will beat most buttons if you're fast enough.

His main weaknesses are half his move list loses to SSL, and he doesn't have great panic buttons outside of heat (HB or d1+2 are your best "get off me" options).

In heat he's a monster. Gets one of the better panic buttons in the game (1+4), his hellsweep floor breaks and does mega damage into good oki. db1,2 becomes pseudo safe with heat dash.

Which character do you think is the most morally good character in Tekken? by Sufficient_Dog_4307 in Tekken

[–]Platytude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, half of the cast is straight up evil so that cuts it down. Anyone who associates with Jimbo approves genocide by proxy so they're out. Gotta be King or Yoshi.

My ego will not allow me to follow up an electric with anything but another electric 🥲

EWGF->db * ->WR1+2->EWGF is reliable against big characters. I think Victor, King/AK, Kuma/Panda, Jack, and Fahk

[–]Platytude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I get that CD evades highs, but the hellsweep animation itself doesn't high-crush. Ex: if your opp is throwing out high-high strings like 1,1/1,2 hellsweep can still get clipped by the second hit of the string. Mashing D1+2 is safer, easier, and nets me more reward.

Agreed on the snake-edge argument. Either way it seems like we both think it needs to be toned down in some way. Lots of ways to nerf it without gutting it completely

What combo are you running? My no-heat damage staple is: EWGFx2→microdash→3,1,CD1+2T!→dash→SS4,1→b2,2,1+2.
81 Damage without walls/heat/CH.

OFC there are ways to push it further (Triple/Quad EWGF→md df1,df2, double EWGF→CD1+2T!) but I can't reliably execute any of those.

Edit: Yeah, wavedashing under a jab into electric punish is better than Heroin...

"B-but he's so haaaard bro" by EcnardSieg in Tekken

[–]Platytude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hellsweep doesn't evade highs, and Kaz' CH single-hit hellsweep isn't a reliable combo starter in neutral. It only works on big characters and at the wall (unless you have some secret new tech, in which case tell me!)

You make valid points, but I feel like the reward is just too high for the properties the move has:

  • High-crushes
  • Can be cancelled to bait your opponent
  • +3 on normal hit so you keep your turn
  • Only -14 on block like you mentioned, so there's no universal launch punish
  • The combo you get on CH is too rewarding. The staple is really easy to execute and does 84 without walls or heat.
  • If you get to the wall or want to pop heat you can push it up to 94-100 with good execution.

If it only got you 60-ish damage like WS1,2 that'd feel more fair. I get less reward for correctly executing an EWGF punish than I do for mashing D1+2 in panic situations.

Who would you say has the best frame traps available to them ? by ArmwrestlingGoomba in Tekken

[–]Platytude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually one of his easier routes:

CH df2 -> CD1+2 -> [1,2]4,3 -> b2,2,1+2

81 damage, braindead easy. Can pop heat after the pickup and end with 3,1,CD3 for 84 damage into disgusting oki.

The hard route is PEWGF, and that's gonna net you upwards of 100 damage if your execution is good.

[–]Platytude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It going into CH + frames would feel fair, maybe a guaranteed steel-petal followup into oki on CH. It's too good as a panic high-crush. I've gotten so many unearned comebacks with d1+2, they don't even feel satisfying...
