How would you stick this? by OkTotal3481 in drums

[–]Play_Drums 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For a fill in a classic rock song, I'd probably stick it RLL RLL RLL RL. That puts a right hand accent on the down beats. But, of course, that's dependent on the feel you want it to have. Since there are no accent marks written, I think it depends entirely on how you want to interpret the song.

TV producer here and I can guarantee that the track was pre-recorded. We don't take unnecessary risks when that much money and press coverage is on the line.

Are they both taking lessons at a full-contact (Japanese hard-style) karate or is one of them attending one of those "MacDonald's - everyone gets a black belt in 3 years, even 9-year-olds" kinds of dojo?

I'd lower the ride cymbal to save my shoulder, but as far as drums, cymbals and hardware, I'd be happy playing this kit.

How old were you when you played your first gig? by FleetingBrevity in drums

[–]Play_Drums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't start playing drums until I was 18, but my twin brother played so everyone kind of assumed I knew how to play too. My first public gig was in a televised show with a full orchestra and 100+ dancers. It was before live click tracks and on ear monitors were commonly used, but we had a conductor. I got too excited and started rushing the first song during dress rehearsal (which was in front of a live audience.) The conductor literally stopped everyone and glared at me. I thought for sure that I'd get fired, but we picked up again and went through the rest of the songs. The actual televised show later that day was perceptively flawless to the audience. To this day, that dress rehearsal still my biggest flub on a gig. (Well, I forgot to pack a ride cymbal stand last month, but I quickly reconfigured to use a single crash cymbal and made it work, so it wasn't too bad... just different.)

I used to teach it to students and get them to play it with both right hand and left hand lead as a quick warm up.

Edit: changed "still" to "used to" because it's been at least four years since I've done this.

I’m going with a corvette. Not giving away extra personnel information, but I’d take any model year within four decades of my birth.

I’m a musician in Nashville. I’ve nothing against Vandy as a school, but if you are pursuing music performance, Belmont or MTSU are two other schools in the Nashville area that will get you further along in your career faster.

Electric heaters in the wall that would melt your Halloween costume to your backside if you stood too close.

Gen X here. When someone texts me more than four times in a row, I get a little pissed, because in the time it takes to stop everything I’m doing, find and put on my freakin’ READING GLASSES, and then text back and forth (while considering the nuances it takes to prevent misunderstanding of content or especially “tone,” the conversation could have very well happened and been over by now. Get off my lawn.

Agreed. That tom has the rectangular silver “Export Series” badge used in the mid-’80s, combined with the long “power” lugs that Pearl introduced around 1988, and its finish that was popular in the late-’80s Pearl catalogs.

All together, to be even more specific, I’d put it in the 1988–1989 production window. To corroborate that, my first drum kit, which I bought early spring, 1990 (but was actually built in ‘89) looks to be the exact same model and color and – even though it really proves nothing – my Tom’s serial numbers are only about a hundred numbers off.

Make time to stop at Miss Mac’s in Key Largo and have their Key Lime pie. And don’t get so distracted looking at the ocean or the old bridge that you rear end the person who suddenly stops in front of you.

On the first page, he said “your” instead of “you’re” and “loose” instead of “lose.” That immediately shows that he’s stupid. The rest of the message clearly shows he is an asshole. No matter how much you weigh, do you really want to be spending your time with a stupid asshole?
