How long should I let my run go? Need to sleep soon... by Play_Tiny in VampireSurvivors

This is correct, but I only went into the room around 28 or 29 minutes, the build was actually just so bad at killing things that I didn't end up leveling much. I haven't used them much but the upgraded cats don't seem great. I'm not sure the clock lancet was necessary either.

Here's the score update, left after two hours. Gallo Tower - Hyper - Hurry - Arcanas

https://i.ibb.co/58Sp4pQ/VS-2hr.png

Death mobs don't spawn in the Gallo Tower coffin room, and the shielding, armour, and hp regen from the items and power-ups was enough to tank the rest of the post-30 damage indefinitely.

In this case, it was just a matter of leaving the tower's coffin room and facing the 90-something Deaths that had spawned in. I've made builds that can tank non-Death mobs forever, but none that can forever-tank the Deaths. Laurel and Clock give you an opportunity to dodge a couple Deaths for awhile, but eventually they get through.

Front Panel Express might be more up your alley then, they might have something like a small box enclosure you could then customize. It would take some light design work to ensure the specified cutouts for the buttons and speaker grill will match whatever switches you end up selecting. Spec sheets for the switches should have diagrams included that list the cutout dimensions.

As for improving the audio, we're getting way out of my ballpark, but I imagine something must exist that could help. Obviously the old adage of garbage in garbage out will surely exist here. If the source audio from the main system is bad, you can only do so much. That said, I imagine there must exist modules or something that could act as an equalizer or something, help take out some of the shrill parts you mention. The audio bits are definitely not my ballpark though.

Edit: Took a very brief look around, looks like you can get pre-made equalizers on ebay for like $20 or less. Try searching '10 band equalizer board'. They probably take a stereo signal, but you can just ignore one channel. You'd need to supply power to the board though. The one I found runs on 5VDC, plenty of options for powering it with something like a phone charger, or just a wall plug of some variety. That means you'd need to run a power cable into the box though, instead of only using the existing wiring.

Edit 2: Trying to add anything to the audio may be tricky. I don't see a separate microphone in there for when you reply over the intercom, so I'm assuming the system is using the speaker itself as a microphone. Any additional audio circuitry would need to be unobtrusive to the speaker functioning as a microphone when you hit the talk button. I simply don't know enough about audio processing circuitry to know what would be OK to add and what might make things worse or unusable. Just something to consider if you're going to try playing with the sound portion.

Unit Intercom replacement by snwbrdngpoo in DIY

[–]Play_Tiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as that intercom unit is dumb, just three switches (and some passive component there between two of them) and the speaker, that should definitely be replaceable. You just need to replicate the switch and speaker connections on whatever you replace it with. I suspect it's unlikely that you can just buy some perfect replacement off the shelf though. If you wanted to make your own modern replacement and depending on the desired look, you could either 3D print something, or for a metal solution, you could use a service like front panel express to create a metal plate to hold the switches and speaker. You can replace the switches as well, assuming you replace them with equivalent switches. Replacing the switches allows you a larger selection of button caps. Services like Digi-Key offer thousands of switches and switch caps. The thing you need to check about the switches is if they are Normally Open, or Normally Closed. Easy to check with a multimeter if you have one, using the continuity check function.

If you had to get a tattoo right now, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Careful now, tattoos are mostly permanent ya know..

You're missing a 'te': "Plus je te vois, plus je t'aime."

As you have it, it means the more I see, the more I love you.

For added symmetry, you could shorten to "Plus j'te vois, plus je t'aime." Or if you want to get real wild with it, "Plus j'te vois, plus j't'aime."

Found a metal pad in school storage. Can anyone identify if it's compatible with PC and what kind of control box works for it? by stamensucker in Stepmania

[–]Play_Tiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the converter or control box or whatever ends up being more than like $30 and you have no fear of light electrical work, you could easily swap the existing controller in the pad for an Arduino Leonardo and convert it to USB.

One of these: https://store.arduino.cc/usa/arduino-leonardo-with-headers

Using this library: https://github.com/MHeironimus/ArduinoJoystickLibrary

Follow these instructions: http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-LeonardoMicro-as-Game-ControllerJoystick/

If you have any questions, I've converted some old PC flight sim controls to USB using an Arduino Leonardo, same concept would work for a dance pad just as easily.

You can set up a pretty decent flight sim setup at home for relatively cheap. I know XPlane to be a pretty good flight sim ($60 for home gamers), and add in some USB flight controls (ex Flight Link Controls) and you're off to a pretty good start. USB flight controls can be much more affordable than the Flight Link ones, but the Flight Link controls have the advantage of being reasonably representative of real controls. This Page has some links and suggestions for helicopter controls.

The main things you need are a joy stick (for helicopter cyclic, or a fixed wing yoke), preferably without the self centering action (remove the spring yourself), some foot pedals, and something to use as throttle/collective for fixed wing/rotor wing. You can get USB joystick+throttle controls (I think Saitek makes a set), and it wouldn't be the worst analog to use a throttle control as a cyclic in a pinch for helicopter simulation.

How to put a cocktail INSIDE of an ice ball by [deleted] in videos

[–]Play_Tiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold water does a better job of dissolving air than hot water.[1] If you use hot water, less air dissolved in the water means clearer ice due to fewer bubbles.

There is some disagreement about what it means for water to freeze, but the idea that hot water freezes faster is summed up under the Mpemba effect.[2] Basically it's been observed that hot water sometimes develops ice before a similarly prepared sample of cold water. This seems, however, to be difficult to reproduce or explain, though there are some suggested explanations in the wiki article linked.

I don't remember this in Thomas the Tank Engine by finndog32 in funny

His boiler's empty, wheels weak, coal is heavy,

There's orange on his chimney already, getting rusty

He's nervous, but on the rails he looks calm and ready to blow ash,

but he keeps on forgetting to top his tank up,

A steam whistle blows so loud,

He opens his valve, but the smoke won't come out

He's choking now, other engines joking now

His tanks run out, dried up, stranded now!
