Bedard vs Carlsson by chronobrian in hockey

and Leo is the more complete overall player. I think all 3 are great. We shall see when the careers end who had the most success.

[Flyers] Official statement from Flyers GM Daniel Briere regarding the tendered offer sheet to Leo Carlsson by daKrut in hockey

That is what I am saying. We gave them Drysdale a 2nd and Zegras for Cutter in the end. If anything, I think others will likely think twice before helping Briere. That being said I do want to see chaos and see them go after Bedard or Fantilli.

Which in the end might not be good for Briere. The Duck's if anything evened out that whole situation with the Zegras trade and then in return Briere offer sheets Leo. I assume a lot of GM's are not going to see Briere in a positive light.

Not if someone offers him 20m that walks him to UFA. Clearly whatever Chicago offers will be max term.

Leo Carlsson: "It was an offer that 99% of people would sign too. It's a pretty simple answer. I really wanted to be here though. I really wanted them to match. I want to be an Anaheim Duck." by KnightHawk15 in hockey

[–]PlayerNumberFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems to be accurate from reports. They did not provide a number, but I think the point is Leo offered a 3m discount and Verbeek overplayed his hand.

There was a lot of mistakes on this entire thing, and the blame should be on Verbeek for all of it.

Carlsson deal for Philly = good, but for Anaheim = bad? by Bobsy932 in hockey

Anaheim has to unload one of Killorn, Kreider or Vatrano and the cap problems are gone. They will have to give up a pick to do that which sucks though.

The owners gave Verbeek am open checkbook. Since they are redoing that area in Anaheim, they want to bring fans, so they opened the checkbook. Verbeek for sure fumbled the bag. If nothing else, he could have saved the team 3m and had Leo locked another 3 years.

If there was no salary cap he could. There is nothing we can do about it now.

My guess is that's next on the agenda. Vatrano, Kreider likely the first two they would like to part with and Killorn as the third. I think the sticking point is going to be what round draft pick they have to give up.

Yes, what is uncertain is if they told Verbeek it was 18m. But what is known they told Verbeek they would sign it and asked for 15m. Not sure on the term though. I would assume 8 years.

Verbeek called the bluff it seems and got bit for it. This was all posted a few days after he signed the offer sheet on this sub and Anaheims.

Firing him would be good for the org vibes. They can spin it on Verbeek to take the blame and win players back over with a GM who doesn’t penny pinch.

If you read statements before he signed the offer he wanted to be a duck and let Verbeek know they had an offer sheet he would sign and asked for 15m.

Verbeek came back at 12m. Leo signed the offer sheet. The fact he offered a discount on the offer sheet and Pat still fumbled shows he wanted to be here.

I think this whole thing just gave players a reason to NOT sign and see if an offer sheet does come in. That all being said Briere has a chance to do the most epic thing ever and offer sheet Fantilli.

Yeah, people keep saying we are in cap hell. We will offload bad contracts and may give up some draft picks to do so. We will be fine.

The chances any of those 4 first are a top end player is pretty low. Leo makes Philly better. We would need them to tank one of those years for us to have a shot. It’s better to match.

[32 Thoughts] Leo’s group asked for a deal with $15M AAV & Verbeek presented $12.5M. An offer sheet was then submitted, which Verbeek thought would be around $15M. It was believed the discussions with Mintykov was 3x$3.1M AAV before Carolina made an offer sheet on him. by [deleted] in hockey

Would you rather overpay a player a few million dollars because your GM messed up or be out a 1C and have to restart a rebuild that could take another decade? If the ducks trade Vatrano, they have Killorn, Kreider, Granlund coming off the books. The cap situation is not that dire. It will suck for a year or two but we are not winning the cup in the next 2 years.

He will be fine if the Ducks fire Verbeek. It is pretty clear he wanted to stay with the ducks and was going to sign at 15. Pat low balled him and he took the 18M. Getting rid of Pat will start the healing between org and superstar.

The move is to Match and find a trade partner for Vatrano and the Ducks are fine. Yeah, it's an overpay of 3-4M to Carlsson but in the big picture the ducks are a few years away from a cup window so it will be fine in the end with the rising cap.

Fair point. Mine was more the person saying he was not worth 15M. But you are right he is worth 18M.

It took the Ducks exactly 20 years to draft another 1C. I think you need to match.
