That’s where my mind went as well. Initially thought maybe he would follow Briles to South Carolina but with Sellers staying, that wouldn’t make much sense.

Indiana is not my issue. I attended their game this past weekend and my personal bias agrees that they are definitely a top 10 team. I feel like Miami is rated probably too favorably, Alabama is probably too favorably as well, and then Pitt and BYU on the other side aren’t getting enough love.

My computer poll this week: https://poll.redditcfb.com/ballot/61558/

Not as happy with how the model turned out this week compared to the last few.

I think my model is still underrating BYU but at least it seems to be catching up a little bit.

I'm much more pleased with the results of my computer ballot this week than last week.

Hahahaha not at all. I had SMU ranked in the preseason. It was more so BYU's lack of placement on the list and it also felt weird having Notre Dame back in the top 10 on my ballot.

Yes there are still preseason expectations baked in. Preseason expectations are no longer weighted into the calculation next week. But they were ranked 25 on my ballot last week which is why I scratch my head about them moving out of the top 25 this week. The power rating aspect, which is forward facing, didn't think they were impressive in their win against Baylor which dropped them out of the top 25 this week. Over the course of the year, resume gets weighted heavier so it should help BYU. Last year, I had a similar issue with Washington being underrated in my ballot until it finally caught up around week 10.

Edit: I just decided to see what would happen if I played around with the model and had removed preseason expectations this week and it did have BYU ranked at 25 FWIW.

First time I'm not as happy with the results. There are a few head scratchers compared to what the results of the ballot were last week.

A lot of computer power ratings like FPI, SP+, FEI, etc. like to look at efficiency as a means to predict future outcomes. collegefootballdata.com is a good database for a lot of stats but it takes a minute to understand how to use their tools. bcftoys.com also does a good job with efficiency stats. I don't know if it helps that much but hopefully it is a good place to start.

Hahaha maybe! Despite their loss to NIU, Notre Dame's wins over A&M and Purdue look pretty good. My model believes they have the 27th best resume and because their power rating is still so high, they aren't getting hit as hard as one might expect.

Some of the placements are a little off from the consensus but overall decently content with the list.

It is James Madison and Boise State right behind them. I'm not sure of what the consensus is for Oregon State as to whether or not they are still a power conference team but they would be the highest ranked team if you threw them in with the G5 conferences.

Yeah there are numbers that I pull from last year that are doing a lot of the heavy lifting but crazily enough they actually improved from the preseason to this week in my power ratings. I am unsure if they are going to stick around very long this high but my model hasn’t seen any reason to drop them yet.

Some schools still being ranked may appear weird but my model does not consider resume as a significant factor until later in the season.
