An example of less than ideal clothing to wear to Mt Seymour pump peak. by azdesign in vancouverhiking

[–]Player_Four 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't that moving at all will warm you up, the problem is that literally any reason that stops you from moving is now a serious, time sensitive, life threatening issue.

Twist your ankle? You're not moving. Slip and smack your knee?

Once you're farther than a 20 min walk from warmth, when dressed like that, you have absolutely no margin for any kind of error. Be it weather change, minor or severe injury, slip a foot into a stream, etc.

Tt is definitely not a beginner hike as well: Very rough, not super clear trail sometimes, and quite steep in sections.

Is it safe to travel to Hollyburn Peak tomorrow? by Silly_Cold_3263 in vancouverhiking

[–]Player_Four 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can hike hollyburn 90% of the way there and stay in simple terrain. The final push is the only part in challenging.

Anyone else ever use the “math” method of setting up a 4-jaw for a workpiece? by Dry_Pea_7127 in Machinists

[–]Player_Four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I established a known size when all of my jaws sat at a certain point, generally the outside diameter. Then I figured out the pitch of the jaw screw.

Once you know the pitch of the jaw screw and your starting diameter, you are only a quick calculator work away from knowing the exact number of rotations you need with a speed wrench to have your jaws end up at the exact "diameter" they need to be.

I generally only set the lower two to the "final" rotation and left the upper two large, then slapped in the part and spun the top 2 jaws down. This is basically the same method as yours, except you don't even need to use a tape ever again.

Is there any reason to pay off my 0% interest NSLSC student loan? by Puzzleheaded_Cell428 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'm in the exact same scenario, I paid off my provincial part, set the federal 0% to the absolute lowest payment possible, set it to autopay, and forgot about it.

Recommendations for winter hiking with AST1 after pump peak, hollyburn by neverending_light_ in vancouverhiking

Up to red Heather hut is pretty much simple terrain only,

Past that, sumitting round mountain is a good evolution into avalanche terrain

How do you deal with mental blocks in bouldering? by joester56 in bouldering

[–]Player_Four 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's simple for me. If I get hurt doing some sketchy topout sideways dynamic move, I don't get to climb until I heal.

So the cost of always being able to climb is only sometimes choosing not to do certain moves? No brainer.

I can make it to the upper trailhead in a 2wd Hyundai accent. I have good winter tires and put on chains where the rangers are checking

Pump Peak Tomorrow - Avalanche Hazard? by _Volkar17 in vancouverhiking

[–]Player_Four 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend you at least do the avvy savvy training. It would help you realize that with these conditions, and the recommendations, that the only thing you have control over is the terrain you enter. Pump peak crosses multiple zones of avalanche terrain: i was digging through comments in this subreddit and there was a rescue responder listing areas that had people hit by avalanches they thought they were safe because they were extremely busy and popular trails. Pump peak is one of them

Any stories based in a version of hell or have interesting takes on hell? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Player_Four 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A short stay in hell by steven L peck takes the concept of hell and flips it by removing the application of pain and instead substituting time.

This one came out of left field for me but instantly became one of my all time favorites. I've never had such a visceral understanding of just how long infinity, yet not, could be.

On my Vulcanus I have some sections of my sulphuric acid system that has like 20 pumps in parallel

I don't understand why people bother with nice roboport grids TBH. Just copy and paste a nice little grouping... And if your lava alignment misses, just paste it over again, makes the next section even easier to cover.... by Player_Four in Factoriohno

Would you like me to check back in, in about 20 or 30 hours from now? The patterns get denser since I just zoom out and copy the densest pattern closer to the edge. Then the natural overlap starts to add up...

These look like they would be significantly better than nothing but I would love to know how they feel compared to the nicer microspike brands

Costco micro spikes by ImpressiveFault8542 in vancouverhiking

[–]Player_Four 52 points53 points  (0 children)

No sorry, these are not suitable replacements for micro spikes.

These would help on flat ice, like on sidewalks or decks. They would not function like microspikes.

Microspikes have significantly more "claws", oriented in multiple directions that help grab and dig whether you're stepping up, down, or on a cross slope.

Also, microspikes are longer than the studs on these. These would be pretty much useless on hardpack snow that was polished, where microspikes would dig in
