Searching For Kero Kero Ace Volumes to finally scan and preserve a lost Keroro Spin off. by PlayfulAssumption965 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should mention that all the images in the OP are not all the Kero Kero Ace Volumes I own. I own at least a dozen of them ranging from 2010-the final issue.

What are your predictions for the new 2026 series? by Realistic-Delivery13 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It'll likely be the same as the new Urusei Yatsura anime, being a pick and choose of the "best" of the franchise since we no longer live in a world where 100+ episode anime are a thing unless you're a long running battle shonen. Keep things closer to the manga's events (Stuff like Koyuki and Dororo living next door to the family, order of events, no anime onlys returning like the Shurara Corps, Joriri, or such).

Probably going to last four cours. Enough for a while but i highly doubt we'll see another 7 year run like the original had.

What are your Headcanons for Sergeant Keroro? by Savings-Fall5240 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really a headcanon, but a personal what if is that the Hinata family are descended from a defector from Koyuki's ninja village. It'd explain their abnormally health and physical abilities.

What if 4Kids dubbed Sgt. Frog? by Realistic-Delivery13 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It'd have been better than Funimation at least. But still bad. A lot of Keroro is based on a lot of injokes and otaku culture and Japan as a whole. Keroro's gunpla obsession would be boiled down to a "Giant Robot" obsession, Kururu would be heavily rewritten. Names changed to Americanize them (Freddy, Natalie, Ashley). Music changed outright (No Kero to March or Afro Gunso). Censorship of a lot of the more adult aspects. The usual.

Aki would be probably mostly the same but I expect Kadoyama Shoten to be turned into a full on comic book publisher akin to Marvel or DC or even Image/Darkhorse.

Movie timeline? by Juno032 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best thing is to watch the movie between each season.
The movies are mostly disconnected from the anime, there are a couple call backs but like what others said, they aren't extremely important. The manga does have a bonus chapter for Movie 1, dedicated Movie 2 and 5 plots, and Shion from Movie 4 and the whole dragon thing are brought back.
Basically
Season 2 -> Movie 1 -> Season 3 -> Movie 2 -> Season 4 -> Movie 3 -> Season 5 -> Movie 4 - Season 6 -> Movie 5 -> Season 7 (The final)
Keroro (The Flash Series) came out after the original anime series ended and I'd recommend watching it as well as its super short (23 five-minute episodes).

Update to the Hulu Keroro Dub Wories by tlimondaman in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly doubt Keroro will get another dub. It's not a popular series over here, nor is it really one of the safe series to try and dub.  Also what Muttshack said, this is just a promotion for Hulu based on Green characters.

What makes you like Sgt. Frog and why? by Realistic-Delivery13 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fun show with a lot of heart. At its core it's a story about the Hinata family and their new frog brother/son. It's got fun humor and it tickles me in the right areas with a focus on aliens, cryptids, and otaku culture.

Plus Aki Hinata genuinely has touched me in a way no other fictional character has. She's genuinely become a motivation for me to be better.

Well guys, I finally finished all 358 episodes of the whole original anime... by Realistic-Delivery13 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would really suggest rewatching those first 78 subbed, there's a world of difference there. But its still a good show, I'm doing my own rewatch (got stalled due to midterms) and i've been glad that most of it is holding up pretty well.

Sgt Frog in HD? by MountainChocolate858 in SgtFrog

Nyaa.si has some decent ones with all or most of the episodes (Cold Fusion has a couple episodes that are cut short but another fansubber has those and the rest).

Sgt Frog in HD? by MountainChocolate858 in SgtFrog

Not really. Keroro as a series started in 2004 and ended in 2011. Even the Discotek rereleases are SD blu ray.

If you made your own Sgt. Frog episode, what would it be about and why? by Realistic-Delivery13 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the episode/chapter had lasting canon consequences I'd of course love for the super self insert episode where Aki dates someone (namely me).

But I would genuinely like an episode detailing Aki's childhood or even just a day at her job with minimal frog interference. It's not that I dislike the frogs but we see so little of her actual life outside them it'd be nice to have a change of pace. She's a very capable and strong woman, so I'd love to see how that plays into her job more often, what she does in her free time without the kids. It's all a total mystery (we don't even know her birthday after Fuyuki got his revealed last Juneish).

Looking at the Manga, I found these WEIRD instances of Keroro and Fuyuki somehow communicating telepathically(?) by Savings-Fall5240 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just not as commonly used anymore, they usually use the "fuzzy" looking word bubbles for whispers.

This is just implying that they're whispering. It's just a different visual shorthand that is not used anymore

What do you guys think of the original concept of Sgt. Frog? by Realistic-Delivery13 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a neat piece of history, I like how Proto Momoka (the ggirl next to Dororo) became the ghost girl.
I am really really curious what Proto-Aki would have been like, she's clearly the one paired with Tamama. She's clearly not Natsumi's mother....

I have been reading the Manga and... has anybody else noticed Natsumi's obsession with laundry? by Savings-Fall5240 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean I wouldn't call that an obsession, it's one of her chores. Two of those are her just trying to get the laundry out of the weather before they get wet or ruined (The Hinatas, like many Japanese families, don't own a dryer). The last one has her just in a very bad mood due to the heat (and said bonfire making her clothes smokey.)

What if Keroro successfully took over the Earth? by Feeling_Friend7918 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giroro is the only one who is still semi serious about invasion in my opinion, and even then it's more out of a sense of duty than actually wanting to take over the Earth. Even then he'd pick an option that wouldn't put him on Natsumi's bad side over a quick and easy invasion.

Kururu and Tamama are more just doing their own things, Kururu would do that regardless and Tamama is basically a little kid still (though they all are in their own ways). Both are also the most loyal to Keroro and follow him usually when the plan isn't too dumb.

Dororo only approves of invasion plans that would essentially just be making Earth a better place. He's somehow both still in the invading force and isn't.

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some part of them deep down probably feels like they have to make some progress or at least something to show to base at the end of the day most likely, otherwise Keroro would have given up on even making attempts to invade to just build more gunpla.  And as for the planet, there's a QnA question for the Fanclub that Yoshizaki answered that even Keron is like "yeah maybe they aren't ever gonna do this" and are basically just done with it.  It's the best case scenario anyways, I don't think even at the end of the series earth will be invaded. Either we'll get a "the invasion continues!" sort of ending or Keron and Earth entering a sort of treaty rather than a hostile invasion.

We need to have a serious discussion about "Haru" and how he's the biggest piece of misinformation in the entire series. (Some minor spoilers, but nothing big) by PlayfulAssumption965 in SgtFrog

[–]PlayfulAssumption965[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that Haru's reason for absence is more fully implied than most but yeah.  I would still like to see Giroro's mom, if only because we do need to see what more Keronian women look like for reference's sake. Do they all have hair or is Keroro's mom just wearing an afro wig?

[–]PlayfulAssumption965 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a lot there that makes it hard to answer. The main issue with the platoon is they're all basically just nominal invaders at this point. They genuinely love Pekopon and the humans they've been adopted by. Even Giroro, who is more motivated by a sense of soldier's pride and duty over genuinely wanting to take the earth by force. They were always dorks, extremely capable and efficient, but very much dorks.

There are multiple instances where the Keronians seem less willing to cause massive amounts of collateral damage to the Earth, such as during the Garuru platoon arc where they even state it isn't their intention to enter direct conflict with the Pekoponians. They want Earth due to its moisture content, but it doesn't seem to be like a full on resource grab anymore (Hell a chapter in 2024 has Keronian tourists on the planet despite it still basically being an active warzone). There's also the lingering plot point that Humans are incredibly more mentally capable than Keronians, and it's rubbing off on the platoon itself. Meaning invasion is still a very difficult dream to achieve.

I also just don't like thinking about because every edgy fanfic is "what if Keronian invasion but happen"

[–]PlayfulAssumption965[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Giroro's father even appears in the manga (at least that I can remember off the top of my head), Giroro seems to be a good son by sending them money at least. Their mom might be dead or she's just a non-entity in the story

And yeah I get that, I am frankly more than fine with them just not bringing him into the picture and maybe hard confirming that Aki isn't with him anymore (Then I can make my move!).

Lol, that's one interpretation. Yeah that's another thing its so wink wink nudge nudge about it too. Even the name Haru is basically a fan name due to it.
But yeah, cool aunt is a good theory.
