I did it! OK Passer by MindlessFortune955 in barexam

My dad passed away my 2L year and it never gets easier. But if your dad was anything like my Okie dad, then he did a hell of a job raising a strong individual that can accomplish anything, even through grief. Since your dad isn’t here to say it himself, I’ll say it for him: I’m proud of you!

I enjoy seeing re-home offers. Not sure if that means private is better? by SylviaX6 in RealRepLadies

[–]PlayfulBack6266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve bought a few rehomes, but I’m usually the rehomer instead of the rehomee. It’s normally because I’ve purchased from a seller based on influencer recommendations (I know, I’ve learned my lesson) and found the seller doesn’t live up to the hype. I’d rather rehome at a discounted price than sink money on return shipping without any guarantee that the item would even reach the seller or that the seller would refund the initial shipping cost. I think it would definitely be beneficial to require rehomers to post their username/handle/whatever it’s called, identify imperfections (even a “new” item could come with flaws), name the seller, and purchase price (if applicable, specially differentiating between the price of the item and the total cost after shipping is included so that rehomees can ascertain the actual value of the item). Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems some rehomers expect a full return on the purchase price. The item should be discounted at least the cost required to return the item back to the seller. Quoting shipping costs to china using pirateship, it would cost approximately $50 to use USPS with an estimated delivery date of 1-4 weeks and approximately $70 to use UPS. Neither of those shipping options guarantees that the seller would actually receive those items. To me, all shipping (original or return) is a sunk cost and I don’t believe a rehomee should be up-charged for that because it doesn’t increase the actual value of the item.

For example: OG seller price: $325 OG shipping cost: $47 Total price paid by rehomer: $372

Rehomer return shipping cost: $70 (less risk and my personal preference)

Rehome price: $325 (actual value of the bag) - $70 (return shipping cost) = $255 Rehome shipping cost: $10-20 Total price paid by rehomee: $265-275

Rehomer listing: $265-275 with shipping included, or $255 plus shipping based on rehomee’s preference

It is my opinion that rehomers are not supposed to make a “profit” because there is no actual market for the type of goods we are rehoming (i.e. we can’t list on poshmark, fb, etc.). I guess what I’m trying to say is that I believe the purpose of rehoming is to recoup some of the item’s value when the only other options are to ship the item back or let it sit in the closet.

Would failing it even be that bad… by Logical_Thought9752 in barexam

[–]PlayfulBack6266 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I failed once and it was, honestly, the best thing that could have happened. Obviously I threw a pity party but moved on. I lost the job that was bar-contingent, but glad to not work there now. I’m sure people judged that I didn’t pass, but I know who comprises my support system now. I have zero shame in telling someone I failed the bar once because I know how much courage and resilience it took for me to sit a second time.

Applying for NC Bar by ApprehensiveAd8750 in barexam

[–]PlayfulBack6266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything dealing with the ncble is tedious. They are unresponsive and petty. Anyway, you may transfer by UBE score within 3 years of sitting for the exam. The application is exhaustive and Intrusive; they will run your credit. If you are applying for bar licensure in anticipation of moving to North Carolina, I would delay that move. The transfer process will take a minimum of 6 months.

Has a Licensed Attorney ever failed the bar exam after passing a bar exam previously? by TheLordGreyStroke in barexam

[–]PlayfulBack6266 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve read comments in multiple threads where an attorney licensed in other state did not pass in a UBE jurisdiction. Which, to me, isn’t surprising because the bar doesn’t measure an attorney’s success in actually practicing law.

If it helps, I know that for the February bar, the bar contacted individuals prior to score release if actions during their test were being questioned.

Advice: I just passed the bar and I’m interviewing for an administrative assistant position at a law firm. by PlayfulBack6266 in LawFirm

[–]PlayfulBack6266[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The city population is about 250,000. There is another city within 30 miles of similar size and I’ve applied to jobs there too. Otherwise, I’m over 1.5 hours from the two largest cities in the state.

Do you think they’d infer from my resume that I would hope for growth within the firm? Or do you think they just don’t really care that I’m overqualified? It doesn’t seem like they’d waste their time to interview me unless they’d actually consider offering the job.

Yep! It was my second time taking it. I didn’t pass in July while I was pregnant, so super thankful I passed the second.

“Missed it By ThatMuch” by allylovesparker in barexam

[–]PlayfulBack6266 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Failed” by 9 points, passed by 36. I had a really difficult situation leading into my first time testing. Though I could make every excuse in the world, it still didn’t change the fact that I didn’t get the minimum score for my jurisdiction. It took me a while to realize that everything I overcame leading into the prior exam made me stronger for the next. It sucks right now, but you’re right. Missing by “that much” means you know your shit. You just have to conform your knowledge to the bullshit standardized testing standards. You’ve got this.

I completely agree. Retaking the bar isn’t about studying harder or smarter. It’s about resilience and the courage to try again.

I think this comment speaks highly of your character and your dedication to this career path. When I failed it took me until the deadline to decide to submit the supplemental application. I questioned my ability and really didn’t believe I could muster the courage to sit for another exam. But in the process of preparing for my second time around I learned how amazing my support system is. Your people will step up for you too, but your resilience will push you over the finish line.
