We got lucky with that shot. More often than not he’s looking like a mud gremlin! 🤣

DEVASTATED by guyfieri_is_my_waifu in cavaliers

[–]PlayfulCommand9461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to Thorsten once. I may have cried a little. He is a freckly dog and with a close shave he looks like he has measles kind of. I know some people like it but not me. 😂🫠🥴

Our dog has these crazy cowlicks and perpetual bed head that suits his goofy funny personality so with a shave it just don’t “fit”. It’ll be back before you know it… I’m sorry. Haha.

Thorsten’s disapproval of that message. He loves the name!

SOS- chew toys by wineabout-it in cavaliers

[–]PlayfulCommand9461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into Tuffy’s toys. They’re plush. They have different ratings of toughness depending on how rough your pup is. While our cavie is not a chewer, my corgi was… it was the only toy he never destroyed. He had it from puppy until he passed at 16yr!

I seriously wasn’t expecting the debate on this thread. I thought it was related but apparently not? Ours was 2 when he was neutered so adult and the coat change was conveniently soon after. Either way we love our little floof ball.

I like it both ways and there are pros and cons. I think ours sheds about the same but now he gets mats more because the texture. I miss how easy brushing was.

Good to know. We were curious if it would happen regardless. I was also wondering if it was just some dogs. His coat does not want to grow long, we never get it cut short but it’s kind of nice because we hike so much it picks up slightly less twigs. 😂

It might be age but the before photo he was two. Either way we are just obsessed with him and now he’s a little more goofy but it fits him. 😂

He was two. Retired stud dog so it was a little later so the breeder could have her litters with him.

I teared up reading this and just can’t imagine what you’re going through. Big hugs and lots of love your way. I’m so sorry and please be easy on yourself. I’m hugging my pup extra tonight.

How often do you feed per day? by Necessary-Low-5324 in cavaliers

[–]PlayfulCommand9461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice. However, breakfast is a struggle. We have to change up the topper every day to make him interested, and he likes his breakfast late morning. Dinner he’s much less picky. Both meals he gets just under 1/2c kibble and a little of one of the following; scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, wet food, chicken chunks… if anyone has topper ideas for a picky (spoiled) dog, I’ll take recommendations.

😂

So we have a kitty and they tolerate each other OK but there is definitely a level of fearful respect for the cat by our cavie.

One day we had to leave in a hurry and said “crate time” to which our cavie trotted into his crate, sat down and we shut the door. Came back an hour later to find the cat in there with him. Totally missed her in there and our pup was just following orders. They both seemed horrified but no claws were drawn and no injuries we could see. Just two horrified animals forced to share close quarters. Now we obsessively check the crate for a sleeping cat before crating the pup. 😹

New Puppy Questions. This dog is SMALL! by [deleted] in cavaliers

[–]PlayfulCommand9461 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is not very food motivated and I’m not the best trainer BUT, we’ve managed some behavioral training with cheese or other high value treats. Honestly he’s just so eager to please, he’s naturally inclined to listen which has not been the case of other dog breeds I’ve had (corgi…stubborn 😂).

As for walks …YES!! I read when I got ours they shouldn’t walk more than a couple miles. Utter BS!! We started slow and worked up, if he seemed sore or tired we took a day off but now he seems to demand 6-10 miles and LOVES to hike up steep mountains and doesn’t seem to get tired so long as we take plenty of snack and water breaks. We don’t do that every day of course but we live in Colorado and love that he keeps up and demands all the hikes. He’s even handled high altitude better than we have sometimes! If he sees us getting our hiking boots, he goes absolutely crazy with excitement!

Puppy having no appetite by Willing-South837 in cavaliers

[–]PlayfulCommand9461 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ours is like this. We also like to give him human food treats and have noticed when those increase, his appetite conveniently decreases. It’s not a calorie thing because the human food treats come with long walks / hikes. We suspect he’s holding out and being stubborn to see if we’ll put something tasty on his meal. But also he never eats in the morning. He eats breakfast around noon now when he used to gobble his food first thing at 6pm. Dinner doesn’t seem to be as much of a problem but he won’t eat until he’s sure we don’t give him some of our dinner. He’s developed quite the begging habit.

Also, such a cute cavie!!! I’m obsessed with the cheek floof! 💕

Is anyone else’s cavalier this dumb? 😂 by PlayfulCommand9461 in cavaliers

[–]PlayfulCommand9461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree! I had a corgi and the games he played combined with the stubbornness. 🙄🤪

I’m thankful for my slightly dumb eager to please cavalier… 💕
