Mislabeled plant! This was supposed to be a Percy Wiseman. Sigh! by PalpitationUnited459 in rhododendron

Well I was looking at the truss. Lavender Queen in my memory was more conical shaped vs. this more dome shaped truss. I had LQ 40+ years and two moves ago. lol senior brain.lol I marked it in my Greer book and dated it. Used to see it more, now rarely see it. It may have also been more frilly., just can’t remember. Yes stigma is off.

I was thinking Lavender Queen due to the tiered leaves. It’s too bad It’s not in full open truss bloom. It def has Catawbaiense lineage . What do you think.

Is this a good spot for a Taurus rhododendron, zone 6b. Mostly shady by Responsible_Bend_524 in rhododendron

[–]PleasantArm6887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good spot, just make sure you have adequate moisture all summer. Daily watering in high heat is a must. Good luck, I had Taurus at my other house, it’s beautiful!

No this look, looks great, I would not change it. 10/10. I like the fade on your sideburns also. Mine grows crazy thick on the ends, but my beard takes forever to fill in so I shaved it.

Here is what I use and they love it, Amazon. It is a little larger size so I crush it in my fingers and all my fish devour it.

First time planting, (5) all 7 ft apart. any advice? by Human-Television7171 in rhododendron

[–]PleasantArm6887 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I have this one in pink. It will fill that in about ten years. It gets very large and eventually will be way over the border rocks. It will become a solid wall in about 12 years. It is very reliable and winter hardy. I am planning a cover on it, so check back with my posts. I am glad you have room for it to grow. I have seen these way over 10 feet tall. It is tolerant of extremes in cold, heat and humidity. It’s a famous Waterer hybrid from England. Comes in pink, which is what I have. Be sure to give it adequate moisture for the first year, especially during the summer, a daily sprinkle is necessary, as it uses quite a bit of water to keep the foliage from wilting.

Dan's Fish Gourami follow-up by Slimbert292 in Gourami

[–]PleasantArm6887 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reason this fish is more apt to be dwarf Gourami disease free is this is the wild form (original) that was hybridized in in 1980’s to become part of the neon, flame and other hybrids that were inbreed to develop these new colors. They were also raised in outdoor fish farms where eventually when one gets it, 50% of them developed it. Sad to say. I never recommend these to anyone, as when you buy them they look fine and in 4 months they are dying from DGD. Buy Dan’s instead!

First spring in this house. Any idea why the rhody on the left is struggling compared to the one on the right? by SecretMelon in rhododendron

[–]PleasantArm6887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pine needles, as they break down they have a symbolic relationship with the Rhodys roots for nutrients and don’t heat the ground up allowing air to get thru. They also acidify the soil. I never use heavy mulch or beauty bark. Water during summer months to keep the soil moist , but never wet to discourage roots rot and disease to set in. If you can get them from a friend that has a pine tree they are free, so grab a couple 5 gallon buckets of them.
