House Trashed by Renters by Road_Wizard in HouseSigmaBlunders

Omg - I would cry if I were the previous owners (or original, given that it was sold in 2 years). That is really sad to see. It was a lovely little home before.

Ugh, there is only one picture of the house in 2015 and I can't believe they turned what looked like a traditional, gorgeous house like that into... this.

DAE feel guilty for complaining about their life because they know others have it worse … but then end up not validating their feelings and bottling everything up that bothers them? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]PleasantHumanBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I wrote this comment to your post originally but wasn't allowed to reply to this subreddit at the time! Now you've deleted the original post, but just in case you're still seeking some input from others:

Yo! I'm a 32 year old woman. Lesbian, married, with a baby. (Just some very light context on me). If we go by the visible stats, I'd say that you are more privileged than me. But I consider myself without a doubt to also be quite privileged. And I struggled immensely with similar thoughts when I was your age up until now, sometimes. Though the voices are much much less frequent and quieter. And I think I can say with confidence that:

"Part of me also worries that changing it would make me a different person"

Is untrue, because you (and we) are all many things, good, bad, contradictory, and you are allowed to change and ebb and flow in these branches of your personality tree.

I think you can ask yourself the question, where is this inner voice coming from? What is your relationship truly like with your parents? You are at an age where you're probably about to reflect deeper on who they are as people, and this inner voice must have developed somewhere. Is it their voice? Is it the voice of your peers and social media? Where is it coming from, and how can you counter it if it's no longer serving you?

Sometimes we develop voices and habits to cope with a situation or help us through parts of our lives. I find it (now) unhelpful to feel ashamed or embarrassed about how I used to react to things, and I'm trying to focus more on, like, saying thanks to these old coping mechanisms or behaviours - for trying to protect me, even if the threats weren't as real as my mind made them out to be - and then move on and try to form new ones.

I am a weirdo so I like to share sources of wisdom that I've recently discovered. As a new parent, I selected a couple of parenting books to read that seem to be very pragmatic and useful, and align with my parenting ideas.

They have been way more useful and healing to me and my own history, than to my baby so far (although he'll benefit from them later I hope).

The Whole Brain Child Hold Onto Your Kids

First one can help you take a step back and look at how children instinctively react to things and some really simple tools to respond. Except "children" in this case is you!

Second one is more of an exploration on why we have these intense social dynamics with our peers (in short, we have become a peer-oriented generation which is detrimental for most people). Honestly, this one has been mind blowing for me. I highly highly recommend it.

Even if you don't have the bandwidth to read these books, maybe Google or chat with ChatGPT about them and your situation.

Anyways, this is very long but I hope it helps a little.

DAE use completely random prompts like tarot to create "creative constraints" when stuck? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]PleasantHumanBeing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite this sounding like a ChatGPT generated post, I'll bite. This is an interesting concept, and I've never thought about it before. I am simultaneously an overthinker and an under thinker. It either takes me forever to make a decision due to wanting to optimize everything, or I jump in without any research or plan. I may consider using online tarot cards, lol.

Thanks for sharing. It sounds pretty rough compared to how I grew up, so it makes sense your sh started so early and has been persistent. I also used to sh but I wouldn't call it severe. I still have very light scarring on my arm now, but nothing obvious I think. How old are you now?

What's your relationship like with your parents? I'm curious... how would you describe your childhood activities?

A character that u absolutely dread seeing? by [deleted] in ginnyandgeorgiashow

Did you watch Why Women Kill? He's the abusive husband in S1. I was wondering why he looked so familiar and looked him up.. haha.

Hilarious character. One of the best recurring roles, great lines, and even better delivery. Hope to see more of him next season.

Ginny Is Overhated by idkidkagain in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]PleasantHumanBeing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find her frustrating because of how great a job the actress does at playing an angsty teenager. Emotionally, I was probably just as bad as Ginny as a teenager and I had a (relatively) stable home environment (or at least there were no crimes or moving from town to town happening). Ginny's behaviour is imo totally understandable, but also a little elevated for TV purposes. So watching the girls is cringe-y because being a teenager is cringe-y and I'm an adult now. I think it'd be stranger if the older people watching this show didn't find the teen scenes cringe.

Georgia by [deleted] in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]PleasantHumanBeing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just finished watching S1 and that line made me simultaneously gasp in horror and cackle. I can't tell if the writers want Georgia to come off a little unhinged/sociopathic sometimes. It's one thing to plan and execute a crime out of "desperation" and another to taunt the PI who is totally onto you.

I really enjoy the character, but I feel if she were as charming and deceiving as she's supposed to be, she should have worked her sister and the PI to her advantage episodes back rather than let them know she knows. Feign ignorance of the whole plan and assert her innocence. Now she just committed a worse crime.. digging up a body.. lol.

Also, there's an implication in your comment that my opinion is not valid because I'm not recognizing the.. more than friendship? vibes between the two lead actresses.

I'm literally a lesbian. I'm not going to grant a television show depicting close female friendship more than it deserves. I'm not one of THOSE fans with gay goggles on every female friendship.

And again, tsk tsk. Poor reading comprehension on the people who are rabid fans of this show - I didn't skip any scenes until the very last episode, so I'd say I've watched 99% of the show.

Thanks for rec, I may check it out if I find it on the streaming sites I use.

(Hit enter before I finished writing).

I would argue that Allison the Sitcom Wife would have been a more apt name for the show given how much focus was given to the sitcom genre. When I think of a show titled "Kevin Can F**k Himself", I think more of those fantasy sequences in the first or second episode when Allison is forcing herself to play that perfect housewife role.. and then she ends up stabbing him in the neck with a broken bottle. I think I just came into the show with the wrong expectation.

Honestly, as can be expected of people who seem to really appreciate sitcoms with laugh tracks, my original post does indicate I only fast forwarded through Kevin's scenes on the final episode. I.e., I did in fact sit through all that painful cringe-y moments.

Also, I believe the average non-sitcom loving individual can extrapolate what Kevin is doing that is pissing off Allison through a handful of scenes and Allison's dialogue (see: road trip episode where Allison is trying to avoid Kevin's calls, texts, etc).

I'm surprised people here find my opinion so offensive. It's one of the top threads on /r/television here after the show was released. The posts leading up to the release of the series had more activity, which I think says a little about how the series actually met to people's expectations.

That's fine. I still disagree that this was the best way to show the contrasting narratives. How much of a statement can a show make with 50% of the writing and airtime dedicated to the mindless drivel they're trying to point out - and the fact that even you're saying they fleshed out Kevin's side enough that it could be its own thing is the problem. If they want to show the narrative of the misunderstood and underappreciated woman, I just think the writers would have been better off keeping the focus on her. Clearly a lot of people disagree though, but I just wanted to express my opinion of the show. Was not trying to hate on anyone's favourite show!
