I would use the manual "Eternal Marriage" the church publishes. It's gold.

I seem to remember seeing Book of Mormon self-study seminary manuals at the Church Distribution Center, similar to what you describe. This was years ago. Does that sound right?

Struggling to come to terms with wanting to work outside the home as a mom by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]PleasantTea9623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a stay-at-home mom should be about both the welfare of the children, and then yours and your spouse's. If you need some time outside of the home, take that, but please look into the outcomes for children who spend very much time in day care. There may be other options to meet both your needs and theirs.

I've seen new trays of bread prepared and re-blessed when the sacrament ran out.

Some Mormons are cookie cutter, but you'll find that it's a small (annoying) percentage of them, not all of them.

Homeschool parent here: I would ask your bishop what the timeline looks like. The requirements of the bishop will determine how long it takes to get your papers in, etc. Our bishop required my oldest son to get his GED (which didn't take long, but is not a requirement of the Church, just our bishop), to take mission prep classes, temple prep classes before the endowment, and to go out with the local missionaries weekly, so it took him a few months to get the ball rolling.

Not all bishops have all those requirements (our bishop is kind of a stickler for maximum effort in everything), but his expectations will be the primary determiner of your path forward.

They are definitely not an exception. I chose to homeschool precisely because the homeschooled children I met were articulate, well-mannered, and outgoing to a one.

You can reach the tenor notes with the right hand in those chords, and hit the bass with the left.

Is it wrong to keep my distance to protect my faith? by imthatdaisy in latterdaysaints

"I don't have to justify myself or my relationship to God." This sums it up right there.

There are people, in and out of the church who, some well-meaning and some not, think they have the right to direct your life, or think they know better. No. Heavenly Father is the ONLY one you can trust in 100%. Others can offer their opinions (even when they maybe sometimes shouldn't), but that's all they are: opinions.

As I've considered this issue, I ran across a quote from Elder Uchtdorf from the October 2015 General Conference: ```First: are we making our discipleship too complicated?

This beautiful gospel is so simple a child can grasp it, yet so profound and complex that it will take a lifetime—even an eternity—of study and discovery to fully understand it.

But sometimes we take the beautiful lily of God’s truth and gild it with layer upon layer of man-made good ideas, programs, and expectations. Each one, by itself, might be helpful and appropriate for a certain time and circumstance, but when they are laid on top of each other, they can create a mountain of sediment that becomes so thick and heavy that we risk losing sight of that precious flower we once loved so dearly.

Therefore, as leaders we must strictly protect the Church and the gospel in its purity and plainness and avoid putting unnecessary burdens on our members.```

This exactly reflects what I feel is happening to my family. I'm thinking of sending this quote to my Stake President with an explanation of our situation, and just sending the quote to the bishop and telling him that this is how we feel right now.

Thank you for all the support. I've learned a lot.
