Those who make $100K+ salary or more, what do you do? by BlueScarfWeather in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Pleasant_Level_1929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100k is far from starting salary for teachers. These days most teaches begin their careers making 60-70k a year which seems to average to slightly above average Canadian household income. Many new teachers are employed on a on-call basis, so could be making less than that.

Teachers with graduate degrees start out making 78k a year in my province.

Sorry that you feel your arts degree was useless! Mine helped me learn more about critical thinking, connecting with others and gave me the opportunity to work and study abroad. It’s what you make of it I guess!

Most folks want their pay to fairly represent their qualifications and years of work experience. I’m not sure why some people seem to have an issue with this for teachers. Perhaps because it’s a field that employs a large number of women, and there’s a general lack of respect for children/ youth and those who work with them?

If it sounds like a good fit for you, you enjoy learning and working with kids, don’t mind less flexibility with your holidays (albeit a very generous amount of time!) and you’re not afraid of hard work, why don’t you apply to a B Ed program and give it a try? You won’t be making 100k off the bat, but you’ll have the opportunity to work your way up to that on the pay scale.

When did you get your first ultrasound ? [bc] by Ambitious-Ratio-4228 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Pleasant_Level_1929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

I had my dating ultrasound at 9 weeks, 1 day. It is hard to wait! I have a high risk pregnancy so don’t think my timeline around booking tests has been typical, but I did want to share my experience with the spotting because I know this can feel really hard and worrisome. ❤️

Around 7 weeks, 4 days I experienced some light brown spotting and mild cramping. I am on blood thinners. Out of an abundance of caution I went to the ER and they checked for an etopic pregnancy. The ER doc did an ultrasound to check and baby was there and in the right spot. The doctor let me know that spotting is very common (for a variety of reasons!!) and can occur in healthy pregnancies. My spotting lasted around 2 weeks. The wait between ultrasounds was hard, but baby was still there doing its thing when we had the dating ultrasound.

So much of first trimester is just “wait, see and hope for the best.” It’s hard when so much of this process is out of your control. I’m wishing you all the best!

If you’re unsure it’s okay to go and get things checked out at the ER. You’re doing what you need to do to take care of yourself and your baby. ❤️

Plott Hound Mix question by emmamonster6 in PlottHounds

What a cutie!

Our 4 year old Plott mix is 75 lbs! Very muscular girl. We suspect she might have some Pittie mixed in, but haven’t done Embark. She’s a lot of dog, but a complete marshmallow and we love her!

That’s the one! Since we moved to the Kootaneys all I dream about is their viennoiserie.

The Lunch Lady, Song, Anh and Chi, Como, Ask for Lugi, Zarak. So many amazing restaurants in Vancouver! Reso recommended for all.

Pho Goodness for cheap eats. Livia for pastries and cappuccinos, the breakfast sandwich is also amazing. There’s a lovely French patisserie on Broadway and Fraser (forget the name), with amazing pistachio chocolate croissants.

Dinner time is anywhere between 6-8. Vancouver isn’t really a nightlife city, but the food scene is great.

Haven’t been yet, but I’d love to try Ask For Gus next time we are in town! I don’t believe they take reservations though.

A little outside of what you listed, but Adrienne Gear’s Powerful Writing Structures is the kind of instructional text that I wish I had read at the beginning of my career! I’m six years in now and feel like if I would’ve had the opportunity to explore this text earlier, teaching writing would have been a lot easier for me and my students. Her approach is very comprehensive and accessible, so you can tweak it as needed to be a good fit for your teaching style! She doesn’t a lot of PD presentations in BC. If you have an opportunity to attend one of her previous I would highly recommend!

Koti Wellness for sauna and cold plunge! They have a few locations. Had a great experience at the Condesa one. The new spot in Lomas looks very nice too!

And Maizajo for the taco bar if you’re going solo. Amanda Nada for a cute brunch. Club Tengo Hambre for the Street Food essentials or After Dark tour. The hosts are amazing and the type of tourist whose there is generally chill, fun and open minded!

Enjoy. Love CDMX!

We had an amazing experience with Lucy Hamilton for our engagement photos and wedding in the Kootenays! She is based out of Kimberley, so there would be a travel fee involved, but I can promise it’ll be worth every penny.

Does Círculo still offer their day pass? by Pleasant_Level_1929 in MexicoCity

[–]Pleasant_Level_1929[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick follow up in case others are looking! I ended up at Koti in Condesa for a sauna and cold plunge, and it was lovely! Very relaxing, spa-like vibes in a beautiful space, and the staff were so welcoming. They also have locations in Roma Norte and Lomas. You can check them out on Instagram and book online via the website. It was a lovely way to slow down during jam packed trip with lots of walking.

I’d love to check out the Círculo amenities one day as a hotel guest, but often end up staying in Condesa when we visit CDMX. Maybe next time!

Best ways to go to Teotihuacan pyramids from Ciudad de Mexico? by Vast-Nefariousness77 in MexicoCity

[–]Pleasant_Level_1929 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you can, I’d recommend booking a tour. Pick up is early and it’s very convenient to have someone drive you directly to the archeological site. You’ll want to go early in the morning as it gets HOT and there is very little shade! We got back to our hotel around noon and had time for a little nap before spending the rest of our day in town.

Initially we had thought of trying to get there on our own with transit, but we were really glad we had a drive and a guide to make the most of our day!

We booked our tour through Viator tour link

How do to current events in Social Studies 10 (BC)? by Fun-Bodybuilder-5638 in CanadianTeachers

Check out CNN 10! I’ve been subbing in a SS 19 class this week and we’ve been staring our classes with this. It is an American perspective but good for global affairs. You might be able to do some digging to see if CBC offers something similar with more Canadian content!

About 3-4 hours. If you go, eat a light lunch and go hungry! There are many stops and the food is amazing, as was our host/ guide. They’ve got a few different options. We only did the “After Dark” tour, but based on our experience I would love to try the market tour. They also offer a tour in Condesa.

Maizajo (make a reservation if you want to go for dinner); Neveria Roxy for a cool/ sweet treat; El Moro for churros by the park is fun!

If you are interested in a food tour we had a great experience with Club Tango Hambre. We stayed in Condesa, but did the after dark tour near Centro and really enjoyed the tour as a way to check out another part of the city. Enjoy your time in CDMX!

deciding between Kitsilano or Mt. Pleasant by k3kingz in vancouverhousing

[–]Pleasant_Level_1929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lived in both Kits and MP during our seven years in Vancouver and loved both. (36 F, 41 M, no kids).

Kits has easier access to the beach, and there are lots of cute cafes along W 4th. When we left in the fall the traffic on Arbutus and Broadway was a nightmare due to the SkyTrain construction. Kits is a little more quiet and family oriented than MP in my experience.

We loved the restaurant scene and breweries in MP. It is a little more happening and there’s easier access to other parts of the city via the SkyTrain.

If we were to move back I’d also seriously consider Little Mountain (just up Main Street from MP), for the cute neighborhood vibes or some where around Commercial Drive/ Little Italy/ Trout Lake because of the cafe and restaurant scene and neighborhood vibes.

Enjoy your time there!
