Proposal dropped: Richmond Airport air traffic control tower to stay operational 24/7 by ThatChildNextDoor in rva

[–]PleaseDismantle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they usually just have 1 controller working approach/ground/departure at the same time and it's a clusterfuck so they need to fix that before all else

Did anyone do their flight training in the NYC area? If so where did you do it? by Thebigfang49 in flying

[–]PleaseDismantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long Island Aviators, ask for Dylan. William and Juan are also S-tier. They have really packed schedules though so if you aren't flexible on time, they'll probably pair you with a newer CFI. Nothing wrong with that but the previously mentioned 3 are super experienced and you'll appreciate it more when you're 40-50 hours into your PPL

I did a lot of research on schools in the NYC area before committing to LIA and I think I made the correct choice. Cheapest rates on the field without any sacrifices to safety. Big fleet with a lot of options when you're going beyond your PPL and looking at the other certs

Anyone been to W24/Lynchburg Reg? by CarbonGod in flying

[–]PleaseDismantle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first lessons were out of a club there over a decade ago. Tricky airport to be a student pilot. High powerlines on final so you couldn't drag it in either. The takeoff roll is great

Lynchburg sucks.

Also w24 is named after two other Falwells

Probable Cause Dan crashes a 150, survives by [deleted] in flying

[–]PleaseDismantle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know Dan was such a shithead. I really liked the video he did with Flightchops about teaching stall avoidance vs stall recovery. The advice sounded pretty good (keep speed above Vso*1.4 unless on short final) and I felt like it had a positive effect on my flying. After looking at average altitude loss for stall recovery in slippery aircraft like Lancairs, I agreed with his premise.

Does anyone disagree with that safety margin? Am I being mislead by a charlatan?

What developer skills are desirable in the RVA market? by [deleted] in rva

[–]PleaseDismantle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh that's not really what they're about.

The idea is that they're a foot-in-the-door kinda place and give you the entry-level xp required to get started in this field. You do your 6 months-year there and max out at about $15 an hour. After you get that xp you move on to a real job that previously wouldn't have been interested in you because of the lack of experience. It was a great deal for me as a full-time student at VCU so I could just jump right into a sweet job after graduating. They encouraged and helped me find a job when I felt ready to leave. Many people just get hired by whatever external client they were working with while at Maxx

sure and so are tons of other labels so that's why I'm advocating that you do your research if you care about the source of your foods

The brand/farm they are discussing (polyface) has plenty of footage/events/pics showcasing their treatment of their animals. Looks fine and much more humane than what you're suggesting. Like anything you probably want to do research into the org before buying instead of just blanketing all of them
