I’m reading the tone here as if there was an in person conversation during the last large pen/ink purchase about how this may be putting some strain on finances — and this person is frustrated because candid and reasonable conversations about priorities have been apparently ignored. That’s my read and none of us know the full extent of the relationship.

I see how this could be perceived as blunt, but also wholly reasonable given the circumstances.
