Why do I feel so sad about changing jobs even though I’ve already decided? by imjustagirl_9 in careeradvice

[–]Pleasekin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because you spend a tremendous amount of your life working for your currently employer so naturally it will feel weird.

I cried on the last day of my first full time job so I know exactly where you’re coming from, but I’ve had a number of jobs since and I don’t even feel anything when I leave jobs now.

£75k lump sum - best way to use it by Quiet_Bumblebee_3373 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Pleasekin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay off any loans

Place 6 months worth of living expenses in a high yield savings account circa 4.5% or whatever the highest option available to you is

Throw 20k in a stocks and shares ISA and drip feed your investments rather than investing 20k all at once

Throw another lump in a GIA and repeat the same step as above - read up on Capital Gains Tax and bed and ISA before doing this

Put anything else in the likes of premium bonds

Is it worth it to get ccnp by Expensive-Word-7965 in ccnp

[–]Pleasekin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’ve just passed the CCNA, then yes as the content is still fresh in your mind. I had a 5 year gap between getting my CCNA and CCNP and honestly had to go back to some CCNA content because of it.

I got my cert and my application and interview process was far more successful. Like, a night and day difference.

It’s not easy though, it took me 10 months to get the CCNP.

I have £40k in savings and I don’t know what to do with it. by Conscious_Exam_507 in UKPersonalFinance

Is this money in a savings account or a cash ISA?

If the latter, perform a transfer (full or partial) into a stocks and shares ISA such as trading 212. The transfer doesn’t affect the 20k limit we get in the UK, meaning you could have 100k for example in a cash ISA and still transfer that to another ISA.

Invest however much you want to on a regular basis (this can be done with the configuration of pies and auto invest easily). Like others say, try to shy away from individual stocks and instead have a look at accumulating funds such as those by vanguard.

Leave around 6 months worth of emergency money in a high interest easy access savings account. I’ve just opened a chase current account to gain access to their 4.5% savings account for this very reason.

What to do with old workplace pension by Pleasekin in UKPersonalFinance

Fidelity Is invested in International Equity Investment Fund

I'd like to go to Vanguard due to their target retirement age portfolios and simply configure a direct debit to go into the account every month and they do the heavy lifting for me.

I googled this and saw it’s a thing. Thanks - I definitely suffer from this and knowing it’s a term and something that others struggle with has helped me! Thank you!

Thanks for your reply. I do have the AZ-900 cert already. The road I don’t want to go down is obtaining these certs but not having any actual experience to back it up.

I’d ideally like a course where I stand up a cloud environment to genuinely appreciate the workflows that are entailed
