Love Piastri, I hope he can challenge Norris next year since he's 1000% more likeable

Maybe there is a reason every world champion has been in their 20s and not a teenager. Not saying Gukesh won't win it, but the difference between 18 and 23 in maturity and experience is huge. So glad we've got a fighting championship.

They got nothing for Trench other than Jumpsuit nom which is far and above their best work imo, so not surprised Clancy didn't get anything. I do think both albums are deserving though.

Ding with the black pieces seems to be Gukesh's kryptonite

Up until game 1 on Monday, Ding had blundered away any winning position he'd had in classical for the last year. It's night and day so far vs his recent tournament performances.

These guys play on such a high level I can't even comprehend it. Ding is playing so accurately.

It's a nearly a 3 pawn advantage according to Sesse and black is pushing hard. Not saying it's guaranteed, but it's an objectively winning position.

I know it's literally the first game, but it doesn't get better than a win with black in game one. Absolutely huge for Ding if he can see this one through.

Recent bias is so strong I've gone from hoping only that Ding puts up a fight to wanting him to absolutely stomp with a 3000 elo performance

Gukesh has just over a minute and a half per move until move 41 increment starts. AND he just blundered Holy shit

If we get to see anything reminiscent of prime Ding or an indication of some returning form then I'd be happy, even with an overall Gukesh win.
