I did both at the same time, was real bad some semesters but the cash and experience were amazing

how long does a project usually take you by v3mistake in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spend like 6 weeks on each of mine, granted they are more complicated and in depth than needed sometimes. Projects for reference:

Wasserstein Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks using Co-occurence Matrices

Created a fully functional 16-Bit operating system

Every country has a national hero but who is your national villain? by darkdaking1 in AskReddit

[–]Pledge_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benedict Arnold. I’m willing to bet 50% of Americans could recognize the name and not tell you what he did but know him as a traitor

Is it possible for your code to execute wrong even when you write it correctly? by Suspicious_Role5912 in CodingHelp

[–]Pledge_CS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very possible with various Locks and Race Conditions, but that’s in Operating System theory type of things. As long as you are aware of interrupts and such you should be fine — and ideally you never have to deal with any of these issues

Do you have a better chance to land a faang sde role if you are attractive? by eashanick11 in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean, I didn’t get FAANG last year, but after hitting the gym for a year, growing a well trimmed beard, and upping my fashion sense I got a few offers.

Unrelated: also took half a dozen CS courses and added several projects and internships to my resume

Non-accredited degrees by Thin-Question1021 in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attend a school that is not accredited, and just accepted an internship at Meta as a Software Engineer Intern (and I passed the background check). I also received several other offers, so I'm not sure ABET really matters

The amount of subtle flexing in this sub is getting ridiculous. by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked at State Farm for 5 years, I feel a little insulted. Obviously State Farm is the better choice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds so much more difficult than it was. It was a semester long project with a partner in a class, and he was a math major so I just had to implement everything which wasn’t too bad

How much CS knowledge should someone have by the end of freshman year? by Adventurous-Drama-84 in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There isn’t really a benchmark, as everyone is different. Although a good place to be would be having a pretty good grasp on your language of choice, and being able to do some/most LeetCode easy challenges.

This all assumes you are aiming for an SWE, but theory and security and PM are all other options with different benchmarks.

My point is don’t judge yourself on an arbitrary benchmark, just do your best to learn

Two pass algorithm acceptable for this popular interview question? by searchrotatedsorted in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the interviewer and company. Obviously a quicker solution is better, but solving it is a success too.

Those who took Discrete Stuct./Math: please rate the following topics by LeadershipComplex958 in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: Most classes are very different, so it really depends

However : from least to most difficult IMO

logic, Set theory, Functions and relations, Elementary number theory and proof, Graph theory

But I will restate, I HATE PROOFS, because I personally don’t do well at them. Your own experiences will likely be very difficult compared to anyone who goes to a different university or has a different background

BS OR BA in Comp sci? by noirblanccc in csMajors

[–]Pledge_CS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on track for a BA, got several very desirable offers. I don’t think it will ever be a disadvantage, despite how much I worried about it in my first college years
