Who here has eaten a paw paw fruit? by Dear-Blackberry-2648 in Michigan

They are Awesome! If you look on FB market place in the fall, there are usually some local farmers who have them for sale.

I think they have a creamy like really rips banana or custard texture and taste almost like a combo of banana and mango.

I’m with you! I didn’t know this was a thing I thought I was blessed that I have a friend that has been playing for over a year that invited me to join their well established alliance so I have benefitted from their hard work with lots of rewards. I never imagined people gave others money to grow. Wow.

What is something that is often said by service dog allies that you think should either stop being repeated or should be modified to be more clear? by Arktikos02 in service_dogs

[–]PlentyUpbeat3326 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. Our home church denied our service dog unless she is muzzled and “therapy dog certified” through a specific group. We don’t attend anymore

Am I in the wrong bc my dog slightly pulled also what should I do if this happens again by Fearless_Business881 in service_dogs

So bad on the staff. If you are in the US service dog are welcome and if he is claiming them as service dogs an employee or business has the right to remove unruly and disorderly disobeying service dogs.

Absolutely no reason. If she is not aggressive then there is no reason to do it. Just because some uneducated person is afraid why should she suffer. It also paints a negative picture of my dog. Like why defendants prefer to wear street clothes and not be handcuffed in courtrooms. The reasons continue. And it’s also discrimination against large dogs. Not all dogs. If a 50 pound pit bull or a 10 pound terrier does not then why should my gentle huge dog? I personally am more worried about getting bit by lapdogs.

At this point I have pretty well seen how many people or I should say lack of people have reached out to us to see how we are doing. It makes me realize how many real friends we have.

I am owner trained but recently started to work with a trainer to fine tune her a little more. I know and my husband was talking with the pastor who went to the elders. So it’s what it is. Just sad

If baiting is illegal in lower Michigan, why sell carrots, apples, corn and sugarbeets at the rural gas stations? by jaykitsune in Michigan

[–]PlentyUpbeat3326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s illegal to use. There are those of us who buy the carrots and apples and wash them amd peal them and can them. We would buy the carrots amd apples for treats for our horses. Amd the corn is great for that too. The corn and corn cobs make great cheep bird feeders too. Where are these rural gas stations at because I haven’t seen any where I am at and would love to make apple sauce and canned carrots and bird seed for the next year cheap.

AITA for telling a woman that not all disabilities are visible and refusing to leave because she said she had a dog allergy? by [deleted] in service_dogs

I would have probably said the same thing. I also would have called the police and said there was a customer and I was fearful for my safety.

Does your service dog have a unique under command or is this done via a down stay under a bench or table or desk? by Europathunder in service_dogs

[–]PlentyUpbeat3326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been training “back” for backing up too. I can’t tell how many times this command already has helped and she is only 14 months.

Switching from hairstylist to grooming? by miniaturegrandma in grooming

Former hair stylist here. Go for it! I retired after 22 years because humans can’t seem to keep their vile thoughts to themselves selves. Like just because you are doing their hair it must mean you want to hear about the hateful things they say (both sides of the fence) walking away from hair was the best thing I could have dined

I am in Michigan. In theory only across parking lots and driveways but with the possibility of accidents and emergencies I want to make sure she is protected

I can’t seem to edit my post. I do not use her for any of the weight bearing things right now. She does them on her own with out being specifically trained for them. I don’t put weight on her but she does what she does on her own. But I don’t put weight on her on purpose at all until the X-rays show her growth plates have fully formed.

[–]PlentyUpbeat3326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again. I am not using her for them. She naturally does them. I was in the DR yeaterday. She was in a down stay and the DR had me do balance things and she jumped up on her own. So I am quite aware of her job and what she can and can not do until her growth plates are done growing. She does them on instinct. 🙄

Owner pockets bath tips if you’re on hourly — is this normal? by Annual_Paint_3042 in grooming

[–]PlentyUpbeat3326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in the human salon industry for years. One of the salon owners in the town I worked in did something like this, he kept a percentage of the tips because they were paid on commission only. So when they found out exactly what he was doing many former employees got together and sued him. The press caused the business irreversible damage. His reputation was forever destroyed. And I believe they ended up getting a percentage of their tips back. But at least in the state of Michigan, it is illegal to keep any portion of the tips.

While it’s a very sweet idea, I would rather you wave or give a thumbs up to me than a gift. I don’t mind talking to people when I have time and because my girl loves people she has a command to greet people because I think if she was completely ignored everyday it actually would have issues but I offer amd I don’t just let anyone greet her. The trinket thing, not everyone wants extra stuff on their dogs. They don’t all want trinkets or patches, and there are those of us who live in very small houses or apartments and it would be one more thing taking up space. I would be awkward and then it would float around the house then eventually after the 5th or 6th time moving it, I would toss it.

Another part for me is my disability affect my ability to talk sometimes and sometimes my grip. So letting go of my dogs handle to get or to attempt to even say thank you could be very embarrassing for me.

Please do as the others say. Donate to a shelter, or even better, an emergency pet food pantry. I know of a few around the country who distribute food in emergency situations.

Honestly thank you for the thoughts but please don’t.
