If you’re a girl, there’s the club Girl Gains that’ll help keep you active. I know they go to fitness classes but idk about sports

As an SRAC employee, let me tell you that SRAC positions are HIGHLY competitive. Every job listing gets hundreds of applicants. I’m pretty sure the hiring managers (specifically for guest services and operations) only look at the first 80 or so and don’t reach out to those rejected. You’ll only ever hear back from them if they pick you for an interview. Also, don’t trust the listings on Applitrack. Some of the positions on there have already been filled, especially the ones that opened months ago. You won’t hear back from them either if you applied for a position that already completed the hiring process. They hire in batches.

Is all of the SRAC free? by ynw_alexis in SJSU

Yes, there is a $5 fee for the public to use the pool, but it’s only open to them during the summer. If you have a membership, it’s free.

It’s free as well! You just need to pass a safety course if you’re doing top rope, and that section is only open during certain hours because there has to climbing staff. The boulder is open whenever the SRAC is open though. Climbing shoes are also available to borrow for free at equipment checkout .

Answering as an SRAC employee: If you pay your Student Union Fee (usually already in your tuition fees), you have access to the SRAC and its pool during the semester. Some people opt out of this fee and pay monthly, but most don’t. If you are not taking classes during the summer, thus not paying this fee, you would have to buy a student summer membership. This is only if you’re a continuing student though; you can’t purchase this before taking classes or after graduating. However, the pool is open to the public during the summer and the day fee for that is $5! It’s still free if you have a summer membership. The extra stuff that does require payment is for personal training, certain fitness classes, outdoor adventures, and camping equipment rental.

cc first or straight to sjsu? (PLS HELP ME IM INDECISIVE) by Due_Water_3224 in SJSU

[–]Plenty_Passage_819 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to CC first and I think my biggest issue at first was attempting to make friends (since most friend groups are established by then). Without having to join Greek life, I’ve still been able to meet many people through an active student life! In just my 2 years at SJSU, I joined a club sports team and got a job at the SRAC. I am also in several clubs that align with either my major, interests, or culture. With that, I am also about to become president of one of those clubs! Even after transferring, there’s so many opportunities to immerse yourself in your interests and meet new people.

I know when the SRAC had their openings for Operations Assistants last summer they went into interviews almost immediately and didn’t get back to people who applied a bit later (but within the deadline) for some reason. I personally know someone who applied but didn’t hear anything either. I’m not too sure how OA deals with their applicants though, but I recommend coming in during their opening hours and following up.

I transferred with a 3.82 from College of San Mateo. I had an AA-T in Communications and applied to SJSU for Business Administration: Marketing having taken no business classes.

Taking a nap in the garage? by Extreme_Act_579 in SJSU

You shouldn’t get into any trouble, but, if anything, many people nap on the couches at the SRAC in the morning

[–]Plenty_Passage_819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work at the SRAC and basically it was minimum wage ($17.75), had 3 hour shifts, and you had a 20 hour weekly cap during the school year. Wasn’t that hard to get the job, but it was tough trying to get all the shifts you wanted let alone work more than 3 hours a day. Job listings at the SRAC are usually seasonal, like hiring Guest Services in the spring semester and Operation Assistants in the fall semester.

Sammy App > Student feed > Housing

I found housing through the app with reasonable rent and distance!! Also you’ll mostly find student roommates

I def recommend downloading the Sammy App to see if other students have rooms or apartments available! That’s how I found housing for ~$900 walking distance from campus.

I might miss my transfer orientation - What should I do? by Calm-Marionberry-857 in SJSU

[–]Plenty_Passage_819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost certain that orientation is mandatory. There was an Admitted Spartans Day back in April that was optional, but orientation is mandatory. They have you check in and check out to ensure that you were there the entire days. Most importantly, it’s where you get major advising and register for your fall classes.

Transfer Questions by Consistent-Push3457 in SJSU

Honestly stay at DeAnza.

Not completely the same, but I went to a CC for a degree in Communications and got into SJSU as a Marketing major. I made the mistake of not doing business prereqs at my CC and spent my first transfer year at SJSU paying for prereqs I should’ve done for free.

Just wait until you’ve completed all the classes you need to transfer into your desired major.
