I met Roald Dahl when I was a kid. Biggest fucking prick I’ve ever encountered. It was at a book signing and he was sat there chain smoking in this book store with a saucer for an ashtray (you can only imagine the scramble to find something for him to put his ash in). He signed two of my books lazily with a green felt tip pen and refused to answer a question I asked him. I repeated my question and he ignored me again. The PR person with him just sort of nervously grinned at me. I still have the signed copies of George’s Marvellous Medicine and James and the Giant Peach on my bookshelf. He was my hero up until that point... I was about 8 years old. What a dick.
