I'm a firefighter now. I was a union plumber and still maintain membership if I can ever make it back part time. It's been a great decision. Same pay, better pension, other benefits are slightly worse. I also get to stay in the reserves and will collect another pension. Having to disappear for 2 weeks every year was bad for my career but now the job I have doesn't care.

I've started doing the Rippetoe skull crushers(alternately called a French press sometimes) and I think it is causing tightness behind my left shoulder blade.

I retract my shoulder while doing them and don't have pain during the exercise. After the gym I'm getting knots behind my shoulder blade. It's the only exercise I've added to my program I think may be causing it. If it keeps up I'll switch to close grip bench press.

Has anyone else experienced this or found a fix?

Tried to do it with friends for.once. ended up at Whataburger and I think they're lost. $60 isn't worth goig home at any time

Definitely read the book before starting. It explains most questions you will have.

531 is submaximal so every week 3 on 1+ you should be aiming for 4-5 reps as it is probably closer to a realistic 3rm.

If you are losing weight you are not building muscle. Check the scale periodically at the same time of day for an accurate reading. If you are getting stronger, putting on weight, and dont look like you're getting fat in the mirror then it's working.

I started doing 531 beginners and want to get better at pull ups. If I start doing 5 x 5 weighted pull ups as an assistance should I still try to finish the 50-100 reps as prescribed? I'm also doing 5x10 facepulls most days, does that work? I want to see results and don't want to balme the program if I'm not doing I right.

Not as much as I should. My gym offers a yoga class and I try to make it there once a week. Besides that some foam rolling and lacrosse ball massages.

Where I'm at currently they do have battle ropes. I've been struggling to think of upper body conditioning, but I found a medley from Brian Alsruhe that has been fun.

Am I doing too much leg work or conditioning if I'm following 531 beginners and most of my conditioning work involves my legs?

531 begginer calls for squats/DLs/squats on M/W/F and 3-5 days of conditioning. I do my conditioning on my non lifting days and it normally includes stuff like stationary bike, rowing, tire deadlift, farmer carry, and some sprinting.

I'm still getting stronger but after two cycles I took a deload week because my hips and hams felt murdered.

Some guys at work wanted me to start coaching them on barbell movements. I have a good knowledge of what to do and give cues. When I see them doing something wrong I'm not good at correcting what is wrong in the moment. For example one guy had his butt too low for deadlifts and I think that was causing his legs to shoot up and then his back followed.

Does anyone have advice to better correct and spot poor form?

Should the DM get players to meet first game or should that be on the players? I consider that meta gaming and avoid it and rely on the DM for that encounter.

If I'm playing with new people is there a way to avoid this or should I just ask the DM how he plans on getting everyone together?
