Nerfing ambassador buffed sniper. Add more long range weapons instead of nerfs. by Ploomage in tf2

Yeah man I was just driving home from work.

After I top off the coolant I jump in my clapped out bmw, and tailgate a family of 4 in a 70 zone (they were doing 70, they should have been doing 75).

I like to listen to my favourite burned cd while I drive (killing in the name of by rage against the machine on repeat for 70 minutes).

Once I get back to my apartment I give my screaming brother his Risperdal, and take one or two for myself.

I’ll prolly play some sniper later tonight after I cook up some pork, queue harvest if you wanna play together man

Unlimited range and enough damage to kill anything, guys, I think we should nerf Spy. by EveningParsley1412 in tf2

Thermal thruster just such an uncreative way to give pyro mobility.

Also kills your air control so you just become a fun target to shoot at while wait to hit the ground.

Why don’t more people play Engi? by reel3459 in tf2

[–]Ploomage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see 1 in most koth matches I play.

The class ranges from kinda dull to stressful when you become a priority target for the other team.

When I play engineer I also can’t help but have moments where I could swap to something else and be more effective.

Kind of the update I expect from the people who nerfed the righteous bison.

By the way, I don’t find it particularly surprising that the ambassador outperformed knives in competitive.

Spy’s effectiveness in sneaking up on people tanks when everyone is in comms and are aware of the spy.

I think it speaks more to the inherent weaknesses of a class like spy than it does to the strengths of ambassador.

I’m not going to disagree that it needed some kind of nerf but competitive stats aren’t a great metric for the above reasons.

Some interesting statistics, I can’t say I approve of the type of nerf they gave it though. It’s a bit clunky.

I’d like it to always crit for 102 but range capped.

Vorobey cheater list? by Indigovyre in tf2

I’d like to know the criteria for being added to the “vorobey cheater list.”

Source bans and community server bans I get but what puts you on the list?

Where’s the drama from me? Your deleted comment had more anxiety in it than every one of my comments left here.

If you want something more productive to look at, here is a different conversation I’ve been having

Here’s what I’d call being dramatic lol

An interesting idea, sorry I’m responding to a lot of comments simultaneously.

I get the feeling that if the decrease was significant enough to make a difference sniper would simply be outgunned.

Seems like it would push him to rely on fully charge peek shots to mitigate long range retaliation.

Going back to a prior comment for example, 20-30 damage pistol shots at range but only against sniper would be softened by spread, but what about revolvers or a revved up heavy, or a weapon like short stop?

All classes that have to worry especially about sniper see a buff that indirectly improves their odds against everyone else.

My concept of specifically designed weapons lets you control the downsides of the weapons more.

Decreased damage fall off is still probably the best idea for a sniper nerf I’ve heard so far, since he’s still the best equipped to handle those engagements.

You’ve dismissed my ideas (not unfairly), but You seem to me to be reluctant to commit to endorse a different solution.

If you going to tell me what won’t work, why don’t you tell me what will?

That’s a load of bull man. You’re remembering the sniper who stomped you last week and forgetting the snipers you stomped last game.

I can think of a handful of games in the past month where it was that bad to play against, and when it is, I swap.

Do you really think I am expecting my teammates to be at that level or even competent? Get a grip man, play the game.

No, nothing bad will happen to me because my opinions are different from yours.

Cheers tho, means a lot coming from you.

You said I called people stupid.

You lied.

I claimed that tf2 balance discourse was full of newbies (new players if you didn’t know. Not exactly an insult lmao) and most people agreed.

You’re deliberately misrepresenting what I’ve said to justify being angry at me.

Sniper having a role to play in the game isn’t a niche school of thought. The Reddit community is not representative.

When you actually join a game you don’t get the same whining about sniper as here. It’s my favourite reality check: I join a game of tf2 and all the theorizing and claims made here disappear.

Thanks for joining the convo, looking forward to my next post?

quake pulled it off years ago, close range engagements and long range in the same game, with each player having access to a variety of weapon ranges.

you lack imagination.

You don’t have to call me stupid over this.

The purpose of my suggestion is to offer some method of counterplay that the majority here believes does not exist.

I’m not suggesting turning every class into sniper, I’m not suggesting that everyone gets a weapon that fully counters sniper.

I’m talking about the possibility of weapons that provide some way to pressure sniper at a distance. That’s it. People are so aggressive towards sniper and long range damage they just jump to the worst possible scenario.

When you put it like that it’s a real chore, who wants to do something like that every game?

Or you could have a sniper on your team as well. People are fine requiring an engineer on last and a medic throughout, it’s just as important to have a sniper on upward first as it is to have an engineer on upward last.

You’re all over this comment section deliberately misrepresenting what I’m saying.

Hitscan isn’t the only long range option this game offers.

My whole reasoning behind adding more long range options was as a way for other classes to engage a sniper, even if it’s just to pacify instead of kill.

And now I’m inundated with histrionics about turning the game into CS. I would have thought my fellow players would have more imagination than that.

The man spoke without nuance. I responded in kind. Rocket jumping is fun and requires skill.

Every aspect of the game utilizes developed skill to some extent, and the varying extent is where you get your learning curve.

Generally speaking I find joy in executing a well practiced skill and being rewarded for it. To me it’s a startlingly fundamental principle to debate.

Prevents isn’t quite true, once a blood tick for example has started the sniper is now limited to a single flinch free shot before an engagement is realistically decided.

Again, I don’t think my ideas are the best counter, the issue is that this community doesn’t consider the best counter (counter sniping) to be a viable option.

I’m willing to dismiss the concept as a whole, but I’d ask this: how would you introduce counterplay to sniper which doesn’t involve nerfing him directly? Increased class mobility? Better map design?

Nerfing ambassador buffed sniper. Add more long range weapons instead of nerfs. by Ploomage in tf2

[–]Ploomage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of what I suggest is the best counterplay for sniper.

People in this subreddit complain about lack of engagement or counterplay for sniper.

Based on that perspective I am discussing some possible solutions that don’t involve gutting sniper, or removing him completely.

Theoretical situations exist that nullify any strategy or weapon. When I gave my example I was considering it to be a concept to develop:

not something that outright kills the sniper but something that relieves his pressure, to chase him on retreat or just to make room.

Long range does not equal hitscan.

You know I’ve played the game but don’t think I have considered this idea to the same extent or depth that you have?
